Hey, it's Erica from the HP meet-up :) Thought I'd let you know that I added you!
I agree with EVERYTHING here. I have a friend who read part of a leaked copy and she was squirming all day, wanting to tell me everything. I told her if she even breathed a WORD, she was walking home and I would never speak to her again, and the only reason I wasn't going to slap her stupid was because I like her. I'm so tired of hearing about the leaked copies, and it makes me so angry that people are just going around and posting huge spoilers where unsuspecting people might accidentally stumble across them. I'm actually filtering my f-list right now so I don't see any communities because I've heard already that people are getting spoiled left and right from random jerks who think this kind of stuff is hilarious.
I'm actually avoiding most posts that mention Harry Potter, just because I'm so paranoid. I've managed to get through six books without a single spoiler, I'm not going to let the LAST ONE be the one that gets ruined.
i read the first book when it came out. since then, i haven't kept up. you may be the sole reason i begin reading the series for real. i continue to read your journals about hp and it makes me more and more interested. i think what you are doing is admirable. some people are just lame and i'm glad you are working to stop that.
As a co-worker, sister elf and friend (And I so hope I get to meet you while I'm at Jen's this weekend :) ) I stand up and applaud everything you say above and agree with it all
People have been asking me over and over, did you read the spoilers, did you hear that its online? I don't care! The books get so freakin' suspenseful and nail biting and omg is it all gonna be ok??? Thats half the fun of reading it!
That being said, i'm getting ridiculously excited. I'm rereading Phoenix and Half Blood Prince to prepare for the book. The only thing i'm upset about is that i have jury duty tomorrow, the DAY BEFORE IT COMES OUT. Pissed.
suddenly i'm very glad that i only go to the same five websites all the time and have little to no chance of stumbling across spoilers.
a bunch of my friends are having parties or want to go out on saturday night. they seem to have forgotten it is a sacred and pre-booked (hahaha bad pun!) evening. hrmph.
also i still have the lemony snicket books you lent me- i absolutely loved them! and now i'm hungry for more. we'll have to arrange a time for me to get those back to you. i hate when people borrow my books and then i don't see them again for seven years.
