Discernment is not really something that one does once, figures it all out and then is set to go. Discernment has to be an ongoing, ever-unfolding endeavor. It's possible that those simple statements bloom into complexity when you unpack them. Like evolution. Like a "mustard seed". I think that simplicity works better as a rule of thumb (like the Golden Rule) than as a descriptor of the world.
