I got my new dvd burner yesterday. I took apart my case and I even cleaned all the dust out, then I put the new dvd burner in and it wasn't working right. My PC would boot, slowly. My monitor would actually turn itself off between the windows boot screen and loading my personal settings. Then it would come on and neither drive would be detected. So I turned off the computer and disconnected 1 drive and the other worked fine. Bizarre. I called astridas and he said, "This might sound funny, but you did set the jumpers, right?"
*face palms*
It never occured to me that the damn thing had JUMPERS! So I fixed that then all was happy. However, I decided that I should go ahead and just reformat my computer because it had been acting rather funky lately and I wanted to upgrade to XP pro. So, I moved everything of value over to the other drive and brainwashed it. Well, that ended up being an all-day event. I never thought installing and configuring everything to my liking would take that long. I guess the hardest part was finding all of my programs again, and downloading the sound drivers for my sound card. So I now have 2 happily functioning computers, but I don't know how long that's going to last.
I don't like depriving my mother of using my computer, but the last time I was gone, she installed AIM on it. Son of a whore, I already have a program that runs AOL Instant Messenger and it's not nearly as retarded as AIM. I already removed Internet Explorer so that she can't use it. I don't want all of the shit that comes with it when you use it, and she does because she claims things don't work in Firefox. You know, the other day I went in there because she was crying for help claiming that she lost the page she was working on when it turns out she had clicked multiple bookmarks of mine that I had on the toolbar thinking they would bring up a new browser. Then she pasted her link in the "new browser" thinking she still had the other page open somewhere. Uh, no. All she managed to do was piss me off because she was going through my bookmarks. She pasted the link into the same tab she was already working in and she couldn't figure that out. So I hit the back button about 10 times and her page magically appeared. She showed me what she was doing to open a new browser and I just shook my head and told her that she had gone through all of my bookmarks. Which she says, "No I didn't! Those are browsers!"
*face palms*
I considered installing Linux so she'd be really fucking confused and just not use my computer. Denying her access would cause a whole lot of shit I don't want to deal with. I could create another user account for her and give her limited rights, but that would also really piss her off. So, I've made my computer look like
this in an attempt to ward her off. It hasn't stopped the cleaning lady's handicapped daughter, though.
I guess I can only hope for the best when I leave tomorrow for South Carolina. Speaking of which, I have a programming aptitude test this Friday with Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina and I have an interview with Carolina Legal on Friday as well. I'm hoping one of these will turn up some results because I'd love to have a job.
I've decided to move to South Carolina. I'm going to live with my brother while I look for a job, and after I start working. He has no problem with it and I will be able to save money this way. I'm going to move down on the 14th of May. I'm not taking all of my stuff, though. He doesn't have room for an entire apartment of stuff. I'll be taking a few things, like my computer and desk as well as my bed, TV, chair, and miscellaneous electronics.
