Summary: Zoro isn’t really apologizing, not that Sanji really cares.
“Oi.” The galley door swung open, a gust of night breeze following the heavy footfalls of the swordsman inside. “Any more of that fruit left?”
Sanji’s mouth tightened into a thin line at the sound of Zoro’s voice. He dropped the dish he was working on and wiped off his soapy hands, managing a tone that was something close to amicable when he replied, “Are you kidding? We’ll be eating this stuff for weeks.”
He reached a hand into the fruit-filled basket that was sitting on the counter and tossed an apple at Zoro. The swordsman caught it effortlessly and Sanji turned back to the sink, assuming that was all and he would leave.
He didn’t.
“How’s your arm?”
Stiffening, Sanji glared down at the stained dishes and sudsy water. He considered not answering, but Zoro’s gaze was hard on his back.
“It’s fine,” he said, no longer caring about how his tone sounded. “No thanks to you.”
“Yeah, sorry about that.” He didn’t sound like he was. “But you were in my way.”
“I was in your way?” Sanji bristled, whirling around to face him. “You were attacking a village of innocent people!”
“I wasn’t attacking anyone.” Zoro frowned at the apple in his hand. “I was doing a favor for a friend.”
“A friend more important to you than-”
“That isn’t fair.”
Sanji crossed his arms, arching an eyebrow in silent challenge. Zoro gripped the apple tight, glowering, and just as silent. They stayed that way for several moments, neither backing down, neither saying a word, until Sanji sighed and rolled his eyes, dropping his arms and turning back around.
“Look, forget it. Like I said, no hard feelings.” He picked up the plate he’d abandoned, making a quiet noise of annoyance when he felt that the water had gone cold. He let it drain out of the sink and turned on the hot water faucet, trying to ignore the fact that Zoro still hadn’t left.
“Oi…”
Sanji continued to ignore that fact when he heard the sound of the swordsman’s boots approaching him, though it got admittedly more difficult when the swordsman’s arms encircled his waist from behind.
“I am sorry.”
“Sure,” Sanji muttered, face going a little red. He hated when Zoro did stuff like that, the stupid bastard. “Now get out and eat your damn apple.”
“Yeah.” Sanji could hear the idiot smiling, like he’d won something. And he kissed the back of Sanji’s neck and Sanji would’ve protested, would’ve kicked him or splashed him with dirty dishwater or hit him in the face with fruit. But he didn’t. If only because he was finally leaving.
