[One Piece: Zoro/Sanji] Prompt: Feeling Blue

“Are you thinking that if you stare at it long enough, it’ll go back to what it was?”

“Don’t be stupid.” Zoro frowned at the destroyed sword he grasped in his hand. “I’m just making sure it’s really done for.”

“And?” Sanji asked, settling down on his knees and draping his arms over the green-haired man’s shoulders. “What’s the verdict?”

Zoro inhaled slowly and exhaled a bit noisily before muttering, “It’s a lost cause.”

“Hm.” Sanji reached out, the tips of his fingers brushing the sharp edges of the sword.

“Oi, careful,” Zoro murmured, knowing Sanji wouldn’t hurt himself, but knowing the cook expected to be warned, anyway.

“It’s sad, huh?” Sanji spoke softly, his breath upsetting Zoro’s earrings.

“Hn,” he replied. “You can’t keep things forever.”

Rolling his eyes, Sanji tugged a little on one of the earrings and said, “That doesn’t mean you can’t be sad when you lose them, moron.”

“I know that,” Zoro snapped, jerking his head away from crafty fingers. “If you would just leave me alone-”

“Yeah, yeah.” Sanji’s grip around Zoro’s neck and shoulders loosened, but he leaned in and kissed the corner of the swordsman’s mouth.

Zoro turned his head toward the cook, but Sanji pulled back, keeping just out of reach.

“Oi-”

“Most things you can’t keep forever,” Sanji murmured, looking at the broken sword. “But some things you can. Even after they’re gone.”

Zoro’s hold on Yubashiri’s hilt tightened and his eyes stung faintly.

“Sap,” he said.

Sanji kissed him again and stood up, letting go. His footsteps as he walked away were drowned out by the sound of the sea. And Zoro found it a bit harder to grieve, but he stayed there, looking at his sword, for a long while.
