[One Piece: Zoro/Sanji] Prompt: Tomorrow

Jul 31, 2008 22:47

Until around three-thirty-the slowest time at the restaurant-when there was a lull and he had no excuse to hide in the kitchen any longer.

With a groan of resignation, he lit a cigarette and approached the swordsman, tugging him away from the kitchen doorframe and the prying eyes of the others, greeting him with a simple “Hey, you.”

“Hey.” Zoro frowned faintly and scratched at the back of his head. “I have to leave. Today. I’ve got a challenger-some kid-and I’ve got to… Don’t look like that.”

“Like what?” Sanji wasn’t aware that he looked like anything. He thought he’d learned to keep his emotions in check when Zoro told him things like this.

“Like…” Zoro sighed and waved a hand dismissively. “Nothing. Nevermind.”

“All right,” Sanji said, a bit shortly, and started to turn around. “Well, good luck.”

“Hey.” Sanji stopped when Zoro grabbed his wrist and pulled him back and into his arms. He allowed himself to be held for a moment, before putting the cigarette in his mouth and placing his own hands on Zoro’s waist. “I’m not going far,” he whispered into Sanji’s ear, making him shiver. “I’ll be back tomorrow,” he said.

Sanji nodded and Zoro let him go, brushing a quick kiss against Sanji’s cheek as he left. Sanji took a long while finishing his cigarette before returning to work.

Tomorrow came. And tomorrow went. And Sanji’s heart broke a little as each hour passed by.

“Chin up,” Patty and Carne told him. “He’ll be back.”

“I know,” he snapped.

“Stop sulking,” Zeff told him. “He’ll be back.”

“I know,” he snapped.

But he didn’t know. He didn’t know a damn thing. He didn’t know if Zoro was coming back or if this was it, if he’d finally met the one that would do him in.

He was going crazy, practically eating his cigarettes in worry. He could barely stand it. And as one day became another day and another day became another day and another day, he felt all his hope slipping slowly away.

So, when, several days and nights later, he saw Zoro standing on the deck of All-Blue Baratie with open arms and a smug smile, of course the first thing Sanji did was kick him straight into the sea.

“What the hell, cook?!” He growled when he resurfaced and spit salty water out of his mouth.

“Bastard!” Sanji hissed, eyes ablaze with anger and not-not-not-tears. “You said you’d be back ‘tomorrow’!”

“Oh, yeah,” Zoro said as he climbed back on board, dripping onto the deck. “Well…it’s yesterday’s tomorrow, isn’t it?”

“…MORON!” Sanji yelled, but he didn’t kick him again, and he let Zoro pull him close, and let his suit get soaked as he kissed him.
