So as I continue to pack up my apartment and prepare for my study abroad, I picked up my KCP student handbook to read through it for advice and start making a "To do" list and a "to bring" list. Well I read a paragraph in it that reminded me of something real important: gifts. I have to bring several gifts from my country/state to give to my host ( Read more... )

I know that when I had an exchange student from Japan she was always asking for chocolate when she went back. I have no idea why though.

OOOOOH Chocolate! Good call!

I would expand this to gourmet jelly beans and hard candies and stuff too. :)

I would go with gift-wrapped foods, like gift baskets, fine chocolates (although check the expiration dates on chocolate, and don't put it in your check-in luggage...it will melt), etc.

Someone here said it, and it bears worth repeating:

CHOCOLATE. Hersheys Chocolate, Ghirardelli Chocolate, *drool*, Nestle Chocolate, Godiva Chocolate...CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE!!!

Also, bring something "local". Something New Mexican. Do they like spicy food? If they don't want to eat them, you can always buy them a red chile ristra (PACK IT CAREFULLY!!!) for decoration.

Or you can give them a Denver Broncos bobblehead (God, I can't wait for the NFL season to start...) ;-)
