The latest meme going around...
1. Have you ever driven an electric car?
No, but I’ve *been* driven in one. I had a ride in a Tesla recently, and felt like I was in a spaceship.
2. Do you live in an area that is prone to tornadoes?
Thankfully no; the blizzardy Nor’easters (we experienced four in March) are enough!
3. How many closets does your house have?
This is the first house I’ve lived in since 1979, and although the rooms are small, there are a lot of them. The people who lived here previously must have had bunches of stuff, because there are nine closets of various sizes. I never dreamed of living somewhere with so many closets. After nearly 40 years in apartments, this is incredible.
4. When was the last time you saw someone you went to high school with?
Almost all my high school friends still live in this area, so since moving back here I’ve seen a bunch of them several times. I think the last get-together was in February. I was supposed to see them again on April 7th, but I broke my ankle on April 6th and spent the 7th getting x-rayed and cursing my stupidity.
5. Have you ever eaten moussaka?
No! What is it?
6. What breed was the last dog you saw?
There’s a very spoiled, very adorable chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix sleeping on my bed. There's also a loud and energetic brown dog who lives next door, but I don't know the breed. It's a big one, though.
7. How long have your parents been together (or how long were they together if they no longer are)?
My parents married in 1950 and divorced in the early 80s. Amazingly, Shiremom (age 86) and Shiredad (about to turn 90) are still pretty good friends.
8. What has been your most epic cooking failure?
The time I was cooking a yummy pot of chicken and potatoes on the stove, sort of forgot about it, and by the time I remembered to check, the potatoes had lost all consistency and had dissolved into a rather un-potatoefied mush.
9. Do you read other people's survey answers on here?
Yes!
10. What's your bedtime routine?
I take Pippin out one last time, then ask her if she’s ready for brush-brush, which gets her all excited. I brush her for about five minutes (especially needed these days when she’s shedding her winter coat), then do a final check to make sure all the doors are locked. While I’m in the bathroom, Pippin finds a spot on my bed to wait for me. I get in bed and catch up on a few online sites. Shiremom joins us for a few hours each evening to watch TV, then she goes to bed and I snuggle in for sleep. Around this time, Pippin always jumps off the bed and goes into her crate to sleep until about 5 a.m., at which time she jumps back on the bed and falls back to sleep. I have no idea why she does this! It takes me several hours to fall asleep each night, so sometimes I leave the TV on very low to lull me into a drowsy haze.
11. Do you agree with the saying 'distance makes the heart grow fonder'?
I like
lbilover’s answer: Definitely true with some people. With others 'distance makes you grow apart', sadly.
12. Have you ever been to Mexico?
I lived in southern California for a long time, and in the 1980s when it was really safe in Baja, California and no one thought twice about driving around there, some friends and I used to drive down and camp on the beach near a town called San Felipe. It was really an adventure for us, and we had some very interesting experiences. No passport needed, lots of friendly people. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it these days. As for Mexico "proper"? No.
13. Do you have a bad temper?
No, except when I’m angry with myself.
14. When was the last time it stormed where you live?
It seems to rain several times a week here! Dry-as-a-bone San Diego would love to get some of this rain.
15. Do you ever fact-check the things you read on the internet?
I’m getting better at it.
16. How long would it take you to walk to the nearest store?
Hmmm, probably about 15 minutes.
17. What five words best describe your mother's personality?
Insecure, loving, ever-curious, logical, giving
18. Do you know any transgender people?
Years ago I did, but not currently unless I’m unaware of it.
19. What's your dream job?
Retirement, definitely. But getting paid to write fanfic, do internet research, or be a restaurant reviewer would be close.
20. How old were you when you got your first smartphone?
56. I had a $7.00/month VERY basic and tiny phone from 2003 to 2012, right up until the day my high-tech brother took one look at it and dragged me to the Verizon store to get "a real phone". My 2012 "real phone" is pretty much an antique now, of course!
21. Have you ever had a parrot sit on your shoulder?
Does a Macaw count?
22. In the morning, do you eat breakfast first or brush your teeth first?
I always brush my teeth first.
23. What's something you had to learn the hard way?
That I'm not anywhere near as patient or wise as I thought I was.
24. What sort of window coverings do you have in your living room?
Vertical blinds that we never close because that window is Pippin-the-Watchdog's 'street and sidewalk' TV.
25. Has anyone in your life ever treated you abusively?
No. I'm aware of how fortunate I've been.
26. What's the weather like right now?
After yesterday's 90 degrees and steamy, today is gorgeous. Low 70s, a slight breeze... *happy face*
27. How long has it been since your last breakup?
Way back in the early 80s.
28. Can you concentrate well while listening to music, or do you find it distracting?
I love music, but don't listen to it much unless I'm feeling an urge to hear a particular song.
29. What's the name of the amusement park closest to your house?
Great Adventure. I haven't been to the one here in NJ, but I visited the Great Adventure in southern California years ago.
30. Do you like The Rolling Stones?
Not really. I never understood their appeal.
31. What was the last single item you spent over $100 on?
Our utility bill, which is nearly 4x what it was in our California apartment. *sigh*
32. What's something you've been struggling with lately?
There are two big things. One is learning to be more patient and kind with Shiremom; learning new communication skills with someone who has increasing hearing and memory issues, and with whom I live 24/7, is taking longer than I'd hoped. The other is coming to terms with how sparingly I need to type now before my arms and hands start to bother me. The tendinitis that started in 2005 never really went away.
33. What was the last caffeinated drink you had?
I always order Pepsi (or Coke if they don't have Pepsi) in restaurants, because that's a real treat for me. We don't eat out much because of the expense (although I'd love to!), so I don't have them very often. When I do, though, I savor every sip.
