Boom! Working on the self

I'm back from my long break to record and mull on some self-help (or the like) materials, basically pieces of advice that I find useful and think might be of interest to others as well. And LJ is the best platform for this out of the ones I use, as it allows the babble ( Read more... )

I've never set concrete goals for myself, but I see how it can be helpful. Christian and I have for the last 5 years or so done lists of things we'd like to achieve sometime in the future. It's not really goals per se, but more like what you're describing above, an imagined version of the future you want - your ideal state of being. We typically do these lists once a year, and then review them and write new ones after a year. It's weird, because even though you feel you're not actively working towards these ideals, having written them out and shared them out loud makes it more real. It also in some cases makes impossible things sound possible, and perhaps that shapes things in your subconscious that again change the way you make decisions. I don't know.

Working on yourself can be frustrating, but it's also one of the most rewarding things in life. It's worth putting time into.

Cool that you have this kind of "ideal state" planning going on! And there's definitely a difference between maybe kinda thinking of doing something and concretely writing it down or even telling other people about it. Basically exactly what you described, except I haven't really done this before, so for myself I can't yet vouch for sort of naturally moving towards the ideal life after defining what it is :D But I hope it works cuz I'm here for exciting times

And I agree it's worth it. I slowly feel more equipped to make good things happen for myself ohohoh. It still feels silly to write some of this stuff down. But I think that's also from being conditioned to think you're "not worth" the good things. Ugh, burn that shit doowwwnn :D

Thanks for the comment!!
