Suikoden V

Well I've finally managed to finish this game, somewhat behind other people, so I'll give my thoughts on it.
Well some people may not have finished it yet )

"People were listed with everything even if they couldn't use the runes in question for whatever reason; and I never did work out what some of the abbrieviations (e.g. Th) actually affected (for some reason I'm fairly sure Resuurection was Ho and oddly Pale Gate was Da) but whether or not St was Star magic the fact remains that Zerase's rune was massively overpowered for most of the game.
"

The reason affinities are listed for everyone is because they affect both attack power and defense power against that particular element. Some affinities are, I believe, only used for defensive purposes. Supposedly Sl=Slash, Th=Thrust, Pu=Punch, Sh=Shoot, and So=Sound, none of which have magic runes attached to them.

I did wonder about physical abilities being the last set; and the So I came out with Song for because all the DoReMi Elves have it at A. Actually I did wonder if Cornelio's Rune used it.
Someone needs to reprimand the manual designer for not dealing with this.
But since it wasn't spelled out was that for standard attacks or only specials of the specific types? (e.g Falcon, Lion, Viper, Unicorn, etc.)

As for St being Star; well it makes the most sense; however, as far as I can tell only Zerase can use that type of magic in the game so defensive capabilities wouldn't be an issue. As a result I don't know why they wouldn't have lumped it in with another category; most likely Su considering the origin of the Star Rune and the Dawn/Twilight Runes.

I don't really know anything about the details. I'd wager that Star affinity was included just to make the Star Rune seem more important.

Yeah, Suikoden V really had some really overpowered attacks in it. Between the True Men formation attack and Zerase's rune, nothing lasted more than three turns (even the final boss!).

I never could work out who could use a Resurrection Rune, I had wanted to put it on my Prince, but no such luck.

On another note, I totally agree with you that Shadow Hearts: From the New World was a huge disappointment. I almost didn't want to even finish the thing. x_x

Bernadette can use one. I dumped one on her for some offensive magic at level 3 because I tend towards magic heavy parties then Silent lake is more of a hinderance than a help.

I didn't check to see if anyone else could or could not use it.

Ahh, ok. I never used Bernadette much (mainly because I didn't like her character design..I'm superficial like that ;p). I tend to with more physical parties, though.

For some reason I expected to read that you didn't like Suikoden V.

Thomas needs to get his Kingdom Hearts II obsession out of the way so I can start seeing more of Suikoden V.

I still haven't finished Shadow Hearts: From the New World either. >_< (and I had access to that game much sooner than all of you) I think the last rpg I finished was Phantom Brave, so it's been a while since I've completed something. I would have been done with Tales of the Abyss if only I didn't get a hold of Samurai Warriors 2.
