Dragon Age:Origins

If you wanted a real update, tough! What were you thinking, no don't answer that.

Well I don't think I have really got too far in the game; however, I decided to update with thoughts so far: firstly every mention of this game in the media seems to draw comparisons with Baldur's Gate, which considering the whiny self-important characters and long pretentious rambling speeches in the game seems to be about right. It certainly doesn't have the quality of characters or storyline of Planescape: Torment.

Second thought was that a four character party seems somewhat restrictive for both the plotline and the roster: I haven't used the odd warrior I picked up once because I can't see a place for him in the party, nor so far a way to get rid of the preachy rogue unless I don't want to open locked chests. Equipping characters not in the active party seems somewhat of a pain made worse by the inventory system which seems to be a grouped Baldur's Gate style which at least means it isn't down to individual slots.

Then there is the battle system which seems to be based more on luck than judgement as the same encounter group can annihilate you, or barely injure you without any indication which version would happen. When the game decides to throw in an enforced solo bit (the fade section in the circle tower) where mobs can inflict freeze, knockdown or stun (or some combination of the three) tends to lead to several annoying glimpses of the game over screen; and as a result me saving the game after each and very successful encounter.
Besides that entire section, with its forms and abilities, seemed to be an inferior version of a similar idea used in Summoner 2.

That is where I am at so far and I am wondering if the plotline will become more engrossing to counter occasional bouts of annoyance the game seems to supply. As a final thought the blood is annoying me, I know they are going for realism with characters having spatters of it everywhere, but I cannot see that all of them would be happy to leave it on their faces without making an effort to wipe it off from there at least.
