-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, there was Shirota, sitting on the sofa, sulking. He randomly pressed the buttons on his remote, causing the picture on the TV screen to keep changing. Shirota ignored the younger man who was standing behind the sofa, sighing deeply as he felt his effort to make up with Shirota seemed useless.

“Nee, Yuu,” Aiba raised his hand, tried to caress Shirota’s head from behind, but the older man tilted his head to avoid Aiba’s hand. Shirota knew he shouldn’t act like this since he knew it wasn’t really Aiba’s fault, but he just couldn’t help it.

Aiba pulled his hand back and sighed again. ‘This is useless,’ he told himself. Well, Shirota may not sulk too often, but once he did, it would take quite an effort to undo it.

Shirota still sat there, tried to make his face as expressionless as he could, but there were still some frowns he couldn’t hide as he remembered about how a certain someone had ruined his plan for today.

Let’s go back to several hours earlier. Shirota was preparing the special dinner for him and Aiba. Well, since Aiba’s birthday would be on Monday, they had planned to celebrate in Shirota’s apartment the day before, which was supposed to be today.

Shirota had been busy this past week, preparing the small party only for the both of them. He had thought by himself about the room decoration or what food should he cook, etcetera, etcetera.

This evening, Shirota was about to finish fixing the table when Aiba suddenly called and asked him to come to a café not too far from Shirota’s apartment. Shirota could hear noises across the phone. Aiba didn’t seem to be alone.

Shirota wanted to complain, how about the celebration they had planned since two weeks ago? But Aiba begged him to come and promised to explain after he got there. So, still with the annoyance and confusion, Shirota decided to go to the said café.

--------------------------

Shirota found himself a bit out of place. The café was crammed with the 3rd cast of tenimyu. Almost everyone of Segaiku 3rd cast was there. And there were also some Hyoutei boys, Rokkaku, and Rikkai which Shirota didn’t really familiar with.

Later, Shirota found out that some of Aiba’s co-actors had prepared a surprised party for his birthday. And the one who came up with the idea was Irei Kanata. Shirota somehow felt angry, but he wasn’t sure why and where should he aimed his anger to.

To Aiba? It wasn’t Aiba’s fault that his friends held a party for him. Not that he could just refuse the party, right? What would his friends say? Shirota could understand that.

Then to Irei, perhaps? Since he was the one who came up with the idea. But why would he blame someone planning a party for a friend?

A friend. Shirota wasn’t sure that to Irei, Aiba was just a friend. He could see it in Irei’s eyes, the affection towards Aiba was clear to Shirota, since more or less he held the same feeling. But he couldn’t just show his anger to Irei. It’s not like Irei’s doing anything wrong.

Shirota tried to force a smile to anyone who passed him by. Sometimes get into a small conversation with the third cast. But his eyes were almost never leave Aiba. Even though it was Aiba who asked him to come, seems like the younger man couldn’t accompany him, since he was busy all around the place, accept greetings, got dragged in some conversations, etcetera.

Shirota just sat in the corner of the room, watching the lively atmosphere around him. Until a few minutes ago, Kazuki was with him. But then Takuya called him so that he had to leave Shirota alone. Shirota let Kazuki go with a smile, but now, when no one noticed, he secretly gave Irei a dagger glare, watching him looked so intimate with Aiba. They laughed together, sometimes nudged each other shoulders. Shirota couldn’t take it any more so that he decided to approach the two.

Aiba noticed Shirota coming with a scary look on his face, but the time Irei felt Shirota’s presence and turned around, the scary look on Shirota’s face had been replaced with a smile. Shirota then casually greeted Irei, and they got into a light conversation about the weather lately, about Shirota’s drama and so on. And while they were at it, Shirota called Doori and Minami who happened to be around to join them, and that made Irei’s chance to be alone with Aiba would be lessen.

Aiba was relieved that Shirota could act so casually. But he knew that Shirota was just pretending. Shirota was, after all, an actor. He was able to hide his emotion and put on a gleeful expression even when Aiba knew he was actually upset. Aiba knew Shirota did it for him, that the older man didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble for him in his surprise party. And Aiba felt uneasy about that.

It was already late at night when Aiba finally managed to ‘escape’ from the party and tugged Shirota along. But all the way to Shirota’s apartment, Aiba hadn’t heard Shirota said a word. That was uncomfortable for Aiba since Shirota was usually noisy. And when they finally reached Shirota’s apartment room, we’re going back to the first scene.

------------------------------

Aiba glanced at the dining room. It was decorated pretty well, with pink as the dominating color. The table was also fixed neatly. Aiba could sense Shirota’s excitement for (supposedly) today’s dinner. And on the table, there was this small box wrapped nicely. Aiba guessed it was supposed to be his birthday present, whatever it is, and it made him felt even guiltier.

“Yuu, I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t expect the party, really,” Aiba said as he looked at Shirota’s figure from behind.

‘I know,’ Shirota answered inwardly. But he couldn’t let his mouth open and voiced his reply. Instead, he kept pressing the buttons of his TV remote haphazardly.

Aiba sighed again, for God-knows how many times already. He fell silent for a moment. He thought that Shirota might need some time for cooling down. Aiba glanced at his watch. It was almost midnight. Aiba decided that he would just leave for now.

“Yuu, I’m going back now, okay? I’ll call you later. And even if you say you wouldn’t answer my phone call, I’m still gonna call you,” Aiba said as he kissed the top of Shirota’s head.

The kiss surprised Shirota, but he still couldn’t move a muscle even as he heard Aiba stepping away to the door.

Soon after Shirota heard the door closing, he turned off the TV and sighed. He cursed himself for being so stubborn. Shirota glanced at the clock on the wall. It was five to twelve. Five minutes to Aiba’s birthday.

“Hiroki no baka… and here I was thinking I would forgive you if you would stay just for five more minutes,” Shirota murmured.

“Is that so?” Shirota was surprised by the familiar voice. “Then, I will wait for another five minutes.”

Shirota turned his head and he found Aiba was standing behind him, smiling gently. Shirota put on a fake pout on his face, to hide the fact that he was actually happy Aiba was still there.

“Wh-why are you still here? Didn’t you just leave?”

“I lied, since I thought you might say something like that,” Aiba walked closer to the sofa. “After all, you wouldn’t want to miss my birthday just like this, right?” Aiba added as he snaked his arms around Shirota’s shoulder.

Shirota lost his words. He sighed, and then closed his eyes in defeat. He could never win from Aiba… well, he needed Aiba the most, after all, and he knew that Aiba was pretty well aware of that. And as he thought of giving up, he finally let his head leaned backward, against Aiba’s chest, made Aiba’s smile widened.

“So, do you forgive me now?” Aiba asked gently.

Shirota didn’t answer. Instead, he looked up to meet Aiba’s eyes and asked, “About Irei… there’s nothing between you two, right?”

Aiba looked at Shirota with confusion. “What brought this on?”

“Well, form what I saw today, he’s clearly had a crush on you,” Shirota said as he closed his eyes in annoyance. Then, he re-opened his eyes and looked into Aiba’s eyes, waiting for his answer.

Aiba took a moment to think, while Shirota was still staring into his eyes, waiting.

“Well, he never told me about that,” Aiba started speaking, “and even if it was true, I wouldn’t return his feeling, would I? Since I already have you.”

Shirota looked at Aiba’s eyes for a moment, and then let a smile loosen his facial muscle. And once again, he closed his eyes and let the warmth of Aiba’s thin arms wrapped him.

“Nee, you’re not answering. Do you forgive me now?” Aiba repeated his question.

Shirota, still with his head rested on Aiba’s chest and had his eyes closed, answered with a smile, “Not now, you’ll have to wait for five more minutes.”
