A day in the life of...

So my wrist has been hurting me again. I got an appointment in hopes that I could finally have someone do something about it. It was supposed to be a 15 min appointment.

An hour later
I walk out with a scheduled MRI and a painful wrist.

Let me elaborate.

The 'cyst' has never gotten bigger then it is now. There are points when it feels like its moving about and doesn't hurt and there are points where its to painful to bend. Right now, its to painful to bend.

The P.A. came in to check over my wrist and gave me this look that said "its not any bigger.. why are you here". I told him it was painful to bend and if I couldn't walk out of this appointment with a scheduled surgery, I would take another quartizone shot. He thinks about it for a second then tells me hes going to go talk with the Dr. and see if he'll come in and give the 'ok' to root around in my wrist and essentially pop the cyst.

Minutes pass by. I've memorized the chart in the room that had the different variations to a menscisi tear. (just looking at the pictures made my knees hurt.. ow). I was moving onto the poster of all the muscles in the system when the P.A. comes back to tell me that they no longer think its a cyst since its never gotten bigger, but I've had so many problems with it.

Instead he tells me that the Dr. thinks it there might be instability in my wrist and they want new X-Rays and an MRI if the X-Rays show anything. So I wait around for that. Another technician walks me down to the X-Ray room and they take about 5 or so X-Rays of it in various positions.

Let me make this clear. It hurts to bend my wrist. So what do they have me do? Hold my wrist at an odd angle. Sigh.

But they found a small area that they think might be the cause of everything. So I go in for an MRI on monday. (that whole scheduling thing is another story).

They will inject the joint with dye by going into the side of my wrist. In the MRI it will highlight the areas of my wrist and in doing so point out the problem. If its a torn ligament they can easily go in and repair it. If its instability in my wrist they will graft. I assume they mean they will fuse my wrist together and it will no longer have the full range of motion it does now. If it is a cyst, it will be highlighted and they will be able to go in and root around for it.

One of the things they asked as I walked out the door was, "Do you have a ride for after your MRI?" and I gave them a blank stare. The last time I got a shot in my wrist, I not only drove right afterwards, but I went back to work. Ah well.

As for the scheduling. They told me Friday the 13th. I said ok since Mondays and Fridays are the best days for me. I have about three messages from them when I get home.

First Message: Hi, we're calling regarding Rhianna Berg's appointment on Friday. We need to change it to Monday.

Second Message: Hi, we're calling regarding Rhianna Berg's appointment on Monday. We need to change it back to Friday.

Third Message: Hi, We're calling regarding Rhianna Berg's appointment on Friday. We wont be able to do the dye injection on the same day as the scheduled MRI so we need to change your appointment to Monday again.

So now I have to call them just to double check when I really do go in.
