An artist in Baker, CA chained his feet together in the desert for the purpose of drawing the image ended up hopping through the desert for 12 hours after realizing he lost the key to the restraints. I shall not comment on this person's IQ; we artists/writers/madmen often are distracted and little things like keys are, at that moment in time,

2. To what extreme length would you sacrifice for your craft?

I'd give up my job(s) and work solely on my writing. Right up to the day they turned off my utilities, and I starved to death. :)

Hmmm . .. guess I'm not as dedicated as I thought.

I have the same fantasy! Although mine usually involves picking the correct six numbers, buying my relatives and friends houses and cars and THEN doing nothing but writing for the rest of my life. I said it was a fantasy, didn't I?
