“Please, tell me that we’re not talking about this again!?” Sho said, restraining himself from shouting at her persistent mother.
He sipped from his glass of orange juice and continued reading his morning paper, as if her mother didn’t bring up the topic of him getting married for the nth time since he turned thirty.
If only he had a job to run to during the day, then he’d be there not hearing his mother’s pleads, proposals, and pictures of girls he had no interest in.
Sho finished his meal, went back to his room, and started packing.
-----------------
“Yo, I’m on my way to the house. What’s the room number? 14? 15?”
Nino had his RayBan-protected eyes on the road.
“Oh 17? Okay got that.”
------------------
Jun parked his car and messaged Nino, reminding him again of the room number.
He looked at the brick-red apartment building, sighed deeply, thinking whether or not his plans were good enough for them to say sane. Things weren’t going as great and he needed some time off.
The skies were blue and the birds were chirping. It feels good, Jun thought to himself before going to the building reception area. There wasn’t anyone there so he rang the bell.
It didn’t take long before someone entered coming from the hallway.
“Good afternoon. I’m Jun Matsumoto and I made a reservation for room 17.”
--------------------
“Please.. please.. please..” Aiba chanted as he entered his pin number.
He was all smiles when he checked his bank account. He finally had money to pay the month’s rent.
He took out his phone and messaged his landlord.
--------------------
It wasn’t a busy day. It wasn’t peak season.
Ohno wanted to go fishing but he’s still traumatized by last time’s sunburn. He sat in front of the TV, spending Fishing Knots 101 on a Tuesday afternoon.
Only one guest checked-in that day and the person didn’t seem like the type to randomly drink with someone like Ohno.
“Should I call Bambi?”
---------------------
“Nino, I’m here. Are you still gonna take long?”
Jun admired the clean walls and the marble floors as he walked towards the elevator. He got in and pressed 5. The doors were about to close but a man was rushing towards the lift so Jun held it open for him.
“Thank you,” the tall man said, panting.
Jun nodded politely.
The doors closed.
“Same floor?” Jun asked.
“Y..yeah.” The stranger was still trying to catch his breath and was fanning himself with his hand.
The passed the 2nd and 3rd floors and were finally at the 4th .
Jun went out first and turned right. He glanced over his shoulder to see where the man was going. He awkwardly smiled, a bit surprised the he was just right behind him.
“Ah, 17.”
-----------------------
“Wait, what are you…?” Aiba asked looking utterly confused. He was on his way to his landlord but this guy was going there, too? And why did he have a key?
Aiba gasped.
“Are you the lover?! Are you the reason why he doesn’t want to get married to a woman?!”
“WHAT?” The man asked totally oblivious to Aiba’s questions. “I just got here and I’m staying here for a mon--- WHO ARE YOU?!”
----------------------
Sho put down his cup of coffee.
“What is that noise?”
He looked at the door, seemed like it was coming from outside.
Two people arguing.
He opened the door.
“AND WHO ARE YOU?”
Sho jumped back out of fright. But who was he? Sho asked himself.
“I’m Sho, the owner,” Sho replied in a calm voice.
======== ROOM 17 ===========
“You’re not the owner. I’m renting the place now,” Jun said showing his cardkey.
He was lightly pushed aside when the man from the elevator poked his head inside the room.
“Sho-san! I’m paying today so no penalties, yeah?” He said rather gleefully.
“Aiba-san, I told you, you can pay online,” Sho said, scratching his head. He stepped outside the room to have the misunderstanding settled.
“Sho-san!” The receptionist came running in the hallway. “Sorry! I forgot to--- tell you that----- someone---- booked room 17 today.”
“Ohno-san..” Sho sounded disappointed. Before he could start rubbing his temples, he turned to his customer and kept his polite tone. “Sir, I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Could you wait for 10 minutes until I have the room cleaned?”
Jun shrugged his shoulders.
“Yo! Wow there’s a party here? Jun you didn’t tell me! I should’ve brought some girls.”
“Nino-“ Jun was cut off when the three other guys started fanboying over his friend.
“You’re Ninomiya Kazunari!” Ohno was in awe. It was like seeing a miracle in front of him.
“I love your work, Ninomiya-san.” Sho was starstruck. He unconsciously started shaking the celebrities hand.
“You look much smaller in TV,” Aiba tactlessly commented, standing side by side with Nino, comparing the height of their shoulders.
The last few minutes were problematic but Jun was amused by the scene in front of him.
“Thank you! Thank you!” Nino acted like the total celebrity his is. “I’ve three bottles of wine! Let’s parteeeh!”
Without proper introductions, Nino went inside room 17 followed by his three fanboys, Sho, Ohno, and Aiba, and his friend, who couldn’t help but shake his head, Jun.
END.
