I was talking to someone recently when they got their driver's license in the netherlands. it seems rather difficult over there. what did you have to do for your test, if you don't mind me asking?

When I was 15 I got a "learner's permit" which meant i could drive as long as someone was in the car that was 21 or older. You wait a year, and then when you turn 16, you can get your driver's license and you don't have to drive with anyone. To get your learner's permit you just take a 20 question written test, all multi-choice.
then to get your real license, you take a driving test that lasts 5 minutes, a written test of road signs, a few multiple choice questions, and you're done!

in US its a lot easier than in europe.. you can only get your license if you are at least 18. I don't know how it works in other countries, but in portugal, you have to take a 30 question multiple-choice question exam (with road signs, mechanical stuff, and a lot of useless things such as the regulamental weights for trucks) and a 40 minute driving exam, but you're forced to take 30 classes of each to be able to do them. the driving's not that easy, they are really picky now, it used to be only 15 minutes..
i took two years to get my license, which is the absolute maximum. if you can't do it in two years you'll have to start it from scratch :S if i had flunked the driving exam today i would be pretty screwed up. so i'm kinda relieved :D

i heard that it's very hard to getting a license in netherlands, probably because the public transportation is pretty good and most people ride bikes, which are non-poluent, and therefore, bether than cars. :)

WOW! well then felicitações!!!! :) That's a lot of work just to drive around. It's very very easy to get a license here compared to all of that haha.

and yes, a lot of people i've talked to over there do all ride their bikes. I like that better than driving anyway. :)

bikes wouldn't work in lisbon... the netherlands are built over plains while most of portugal (except for the southernmost part) is build over mounts.. it would be terrible to ride a bike here all day :(
