I personally don't euthanize an animal until I know that there is no quality of life, and what this woman did to her "child" was nothing short of bloody selfish, and cruel. She didn't care how the dog felt, she just cared how she felt.
If you honestly believe that once the weather turns he will be in pain and just enduring his existence, then putting him down is the right choice, no matter how much it hurts to do it.
I wish more than anything they could really tell us what to do. I think in a way, Red told me what to do, but I just didn't want to hear it? I didn't want to listen? if that makes any sense...
I lean both ways... If he's really going through that much food and expense a week and isn't showing any improvement...maybe its time..on the other hand, maybe you should try something different? Like a better quality of feed, or additives/supplements, and see how that goes? That's kind of what I did with Red, and it did wonders..I was apalled the other day, going through some photos, coming across some of the winter before he died, and he looked almost like a skeleton..where a picture 5 months later after really buckling down about his feed and stuff, he looked amazing..It's hard to say. I think winter is hard on all of them. :/
that's kind of the hard part- I work in a feed store. I've literally tried EVERY single type of bagged feed we have, and a few we don't. The stuff he is on now, I have to have imported from Ontario, and it is $34.00 a bag. I've done all the tests, I've had nutritionist after nutritionist after vet after holistic diet lady look at him- nothing really seems to work
