summary Of bad dates and romantic jerks

If asked, Yunho would say that he is already used to having friends around who could, more often than not, be described as 'weird'.

For example, his two best friends Yoochun and Donghae once decided that coming to school wearing Pokémon costumes while they ran around trying to catch the aforementioned creatures was somehow a good idea. Needless to say that the principal made sure to let them know just how much he disagrees.

Also, just one week ago, Dongho, Junsu and Junho somehow didn't receive the notification that they were not part of the Glee cast and that jumping around on tables during spontaneous musical performances while people were trying to enjoy their lunch is bound to get you in trouble.

But to have one of his best friends, who happens to be his ex girlfriend as well, sit down in front of him and simply smile at him without saying anything is more than unnerving.

“Did something good happen?” Yunho finally asks after a while of staring at her questioningly and receiving nothing but her bright smile in return.

“More than good.” She finally speaks and the excitement in her voice easily makes him grow even more curious.

As someone who has reached the 10th year of friendship with her a month ago and has dated her for three months, he knows that it's not easy to get Jessica enthusiastic about something, so whatever got her this hyped has to be really good news.

“Jaejoong's and Sangwoo's date didn't go well.” Before Yunho could say anything in response, the petite girl immediately put up her hand to signal for him to hear her out first. “It was Taeyeon's shift when they had their date in Cafe J Holic and Jaejoong seemed super distracted all the time and Sangwoo tried his best to make him talk more but yeah, it didn't really work out and Sangwoo got upset. They argued for a bit before they paid and went out. Taeyeon saw them talking in front of the coffee shop for a bit and Jaejoong had that apologetic puppy look thing going on and then they left in different directions.”

Yunho leans back and takes a gulp from his orange juice, all the while avoiding his friend's gaze as he tries hard not to grin. “Doesn't mean they won't give it another try.”

The taller student is almost shocked to hear Jessica snort in return. “Sure, that's highly possible although they have not done as much as glanced at each other in class today.”

Jessica takes a deep breath before reaching over to get a hold of Yunho's free hand, making sure to give it a good squeeze. “Come on, Yunho. Just go and ask him out.”

Yunho let out a sigh, but before he can say something in return, Jessica has already retracted her right hand from around his to hold it up in a shushing manner.

“Listen, I know you are scared. You two are friends and you don't want to risk losing what you have, I get that.” Jessica sighs and leans back before taking a sip from her iced coffee. “But if you don't risk anything, you might end up regretting it for the rest of your life.”

Before Yunho manages to answer, a familiar voice interrupts the two friends.

“Regretting what for the rest of his life?” Jaejoong wonders with a smile which only grows when he makes eye contact with Yunho.

“Not taking that pole dancing class they are offering at his gym.” Jessica beams as she let go of Yunho's hand completely and gets ready to leave without paying much attention to the horror on her friend's face and the look of surprise on Jaejoong's. “Well, make sure to convince him while I go and try to find my dork of a girlfriend before lunch time is over.”

Yunho sighs and places his bottle of orange juice aside before burying his face in his hands. 'Someone kill me now, please. Just a quick jab with a knife right into my heart.'

“So...” Jaejoong drawls and a grin of amusement dances across his lips as he sits down on the chair Jessica has previously occupied. “Pole dancing, huh?”

The slightly older student laughs at the groan coming from Yunho.

“She was just kidding...” Yunho mumbles in embarrassment. “You know how she can be at times.”

Jaejoong hums in return, nodding leisurely.

Yunho smiles half-heartedly before taking another sip from his orange juice. “So, how did your date go?”

The tanned boy mentally congratulated himself for managing to make the question sound casual.

“Not good.” Jaejoong admits with a shrug. “It just didn't work out.”

A low hum of understanding could be heard from Yunho as he tries his best to look sympathetic although hearing about the bad date from Jaejoong himself makes him feel anything but sad at the moment. “What happened?”

Much to Yunho's surprise, Jaejoong does not answer him right away and the question seems to make him nervous for some reason as he starts to play with his silver ring like he always does when he feels distressed.

“Well...” The silver accessory on Jaejoong's right ring finger is being spun around a tad bit faster now. “Not even one minute into our date, I was feeling uncomfortable. It's not that he was bad company or something. But it just felt kind of wrong from the start and I have been sitting inside the coffee shop with him for no longer than five minutes before I started to think of spending time with someone else instead.”

There is a long pause and Yunho raises his eyebrows in question when Jaejoong's movements stop and for a while, the other does nothing but stare at him.

“I kept thinking how much more I would've enjoyed being with that other person instead and the longer I sat there with Sangwoo, the more I discovered about my feelings for that one person.” Jaejoong sighs. “I have been so distracted by it that I completely forgot that I was having a date and naturally, Sangwoo got upset.”

Yunho gulps and tries his hardest to not let the pain he feels in his heart show on his face as he lowers his gaze for good measure while speaking. “And now you want to date that other person?”

“Eventually, yes.” Comes the quick reply and it fucking hurts how sure Jaejoong is about that one lucky person. “He is just...I think that he could be it.”

Yunho doesn't know what to do anymore or how he is supposed to act like a supportive friend when he just wants to scream for Jaejoong to notice him.

“I'll send you a picture of him.”

And although Yunho feels like he's falling apart, he manages to nod in return as he tries to pretend that Jaejoong is not drifting even farther away from him.

His phone vibrates a few seconds after and Yunho dreads unlocking it to see the face of the person who has managed to pull Jaejoong in in a way he himself never managed to do. But he forces his fingers to move nevertheless and when he finally opens Jaejoong's message, he finds himself letting out a barely audible gasp before looking up at Jaejoong in confusion. And before he can do anything else but catch a glimpse of how Jaejoong moves closer, he suddenly feels the other's soft lips pressing against his cheek in a small, gentle kiss.

There on the table lies Yunho's phone with Jaejoong's message still shown on its display.

It's a picture of Yunho, taken only a few seconds before it had been sent, and there is a caption underneath.

It's you. I'm a jerk for making you think otherwise, I'm sorry.
