seriously. the tendency for men (and even some women) to blame women for rape is indicative of how far feminism (or women's rights, if you will) still needs to progress. we're still subject to male dominance and all the bullshit that comes with being the less powerful gender.
interesting post. i think there's more than a "women's rights" issue with rape. there's the taboo issue. not saying that male dominance doesn't have anything to do with it, but the thing is that people don't accept that rape is something that a human could actually perform, hence it's just something that happens to people. like getting hit by lightning.
this post points at the problem, but doesn't quite give a solution. what sort of education (or really social reconditioning) would need to occur? i think people should really give some thought to why a person would rape, really try to understand (as uncomfortable as that sounds). men and women, since this isn't a male problem or a female problem, it's society's problem. and the rapists aren't just "crazy people" or "creepy old men." they are us.
but, of course, it's easier to talk about breaking a taboo than to actually do it.
