Finances

We've been running on very tight finances since mid-September or so. The switch-over in income from Olly to me has taken a while, and hasn't been without hiccups. Hopefully everything will be ironed out by the end of this month, though by next week it will be almost where we were before, and things will be much more comfortable ( Read more... )

Speaking of grocery shopping, when you were shopping at Tesco, was it always in your local one or also online? I'm asking because I don't know about you, but for us we definitely spend a lot less when shopping online, even when there are delivery fees included. Because when we order a big bulk of all the heavy/long lasting food items we're less tempted to get things we don't need on the side, we make sure to always get discounted items first, and when we review the order before final confirmation we always end up cutting the non-vital stuff out. Whereas when we walk inside our local supermarket or convenience store, we very often end up buying things that we don't really need on a whim.

But yeah, I know online shopping isn't always possible, and I know some chains don't offer it. :/

On a completely unrelated topic, we've just acquired a shiny rice-cooker, and I have to say it's making life so much easier. Great to cook lots of different kinds of cheap food too <3 <3 ( ... )

We do online shops if/when there are deals for it, for sure- for instance, I think we got 1000 extra points for doing three shops through July/August, which pays for itself through points. Otherwise, I go in, simply because it saves £3, and I'm fairly good at sticking to a list. Online I can trim down afterward, but it's so much easier for me to see ALL the half-price, bogof, multi-buy goodies. I do like doing it, but it's pretty equal to what we spend in-store.

I need to use my slow cooker more- I don't have a rice cooker, but I've perfected on-the-stove rice making (turning the gas off and leaving it covered on the stove for another 10 minutes makes it SO FLUFFY) and we have it most nights. Jasmine rice ftw.

And yeah, I'm looking for retail jobs now but they're mostly filled. My ginormous CV gaps aren't appealing for them either. Blerf.

Hopefully in June we'll have better cashflow and can come visit you guys regardless of where you are and how your travel time is! :D <3<3<3
