The knee-jerk reaction is, that as a catrch-phrase to increase customer satisfation it has its uses. Additionally, Technically speaking in a consumerist society the Customer does inevitably have the final say in the buyer/seller relationship. However! people are stupid cattle. As such cannot generallyu handle the responsability of practicing responsible consumerism. (thats why WAL-MART's taking over the world) most buyers do not have the internal fortitude to admit when they are wrong. Leading the sellers to discount the fact that the customer who may be right should be treated as if they are.
To assume that would let the customer be even more arrogant and lend them more power than they need in a customer/server relationship. It could be better worded by saying "the seller always needs a buyer's business" or "customer service comes first" but never that the customer is always right. That could lead to several issues that could put a company in danger, especially in fast food or something of that ilk. If they're always right, and make a mistake, the company is liable, especially if it involves their health. Which is no good. So, no, I don't believe in that wording, but I do believe in the base idea.
Someone once told me that perception is reality, and it especially applies in this case. Customers are people that come in regardless of what kind of day they have had, they want good service. They don't come to you to be told that they are wrong, or to be educated, they just want the service that they are paying for. As they are the ones with the money that eventually gets into your pocket, yea, the customer IS always right.
haha, it doesn't apply at my job... I can tell people whatever I want and they have to deal with it! :) I <3 being an operator sometimes. But at Chili's and the eye doctor's office that I worked at, it was true. I always thought it was crap tho. I hated it. Damnit, shouldn't have started this, because I wanna write more, but the phone won't stop ringing!! I also hate being an operator sometimes! haha *shrug*
