the met!
i'm fascinated by chinese calligraphy.
and here's another crazy writing system: cuneiform.
more proof that taylor's a giant nerd.
near the tibet/nepal section.
shiva as lord of dance.
we saw mostly asian art, though the japanese gallery was closed. there
was a reconstructed chinese courtyard with plants and running water and
lovely doors and other great stuff like that.
my favorite part of the museum, though, was this exhibit about a
british photographer in the 1850s. some of the stuff was so fascinating
just knowing the process that you had to go through back then to make
pictures. for example, one picture taken inside a cathedral had an
exposure so long that the shadows and outlines of windows were blurred
because of the movement of the sun. it was still amazing, though. there
was so much detail and contrast in some of the shots. he took all these
pictures of the british museum and of windsor castle and various
cathedrals. there were some crimean war shots as well.
we saw even less of the met than of the natural history museum before i
had to leave for work. oh, i'll be back. there's so unbelievably much
to see.
