I don't have much time at the moment to make a proper update, as work has finally gotten around to adding LJ to the long list of Websense-blocked sites, and I have to disconnect from the VPN just to use the e-mailed links for replying to comments

your post may have finally solved why i can't reply to livejournal stuff through e-mails at the office. I don't have a problem getting to normal LJ, but i suppose they could be blocking it from my e-mail program. I to have the great joy of dealing with WebSense - we also have Bluecoat! WOOHOO!
