When something stunningly, globally awful happens, like the earthquake in Haiti, prompting an outpouring of support and fundraising (last I heard, Wyclef Jean's charity had raised over a million dollars in just a few days) I start to wonder about places and funds that are being lost in the shuffle, or are being overlooked ( Read more... )

Well, you've already heard me talk about food banks, which are always a good, local, cause, especially in these times. I give to City Harvest myself, but others are out there.

For environmental, I like the Nature Conservancy. They have some affiliated organizations too, but I'd have to look up the names.

Books: do you have issues with Housing Works?
