i am kind of freaking out about this mural thing.

i want to do something california-related. maybe even los angeles related.

some ideas i had:
california native species of plants
or trees
or animals

painting downtown la or
historic la landmarks

is there an easy way to make a stencil of people's faces?
i could do famous angelinos.

photoshop has a stencil filter. or there is a way to posterize the image down to limited blocks of color. it's not the "proper" way to make a stencil, but i've seen kids do it with decent results.

1. I got here from a comment on gothflakes journal, because your profile icon looks like a friend of mine.

2. Be more specific about "an easy way to make stencils of faces." The answer is basically yes, but it depends on how detailed you want them, your experience making stencils, and your definition of easy. Also the number of colors you want, and the number of layers you're willing to do. There are some LJ communities about stencilling, and a good MS word tutorial there:http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/862/word6go.jpg . You could do something similar by going grayscale, then using the variations tool to brighten the brights and darken the darks. I find that, or even the contrast tool, gives you more control that using the stencil or cut paper filters.
My email address is go.panda.go@gmail.com if you want to talk about it more.
