Where did this obsession with "getting big" come from? When exactly did the masses decide that fitness should be measured by appearance rather than performance ( Read more... )

In my opinion, I'd rather see that a guy is strong versus being "ripped". Strength and stamina are sexy... not so much the bulging muscles. That right there can be grotesque if it's just done for show. What I really hate... are the guys that "lift" but still can't stand up straight or have a gut or bird legs from neglecting the rest of their body. You're completely correct about the people who don't do any other conditioning. A friend of mine lives on protein shakes and Stacker 3's but has a problem with stairs and with coordination. He looks buff but he's a mess.

I may have overstated my case on this one (I do that often, don't I?) I don't think it's wrong to want the looks with the functionality. The fact is, if you work hard at getting functional fitness, you're going to improve your appearance as a side-effect. What I can't understand is the people who want the look without the functionality. I don't agree with making appearance the priority over ability ( ... )

Cardio strength cardio. I can't bench 350, but I can run ten miles at a fast tempo then do 70 push ups/70 sit ups in under 3 minutes.. I stopped caring about being skinny and gaining weight when I realized I can perform, often out performing any of the muscle dicks screaming their heads off in the gym trying to get that 600 lb squat up..

You've got that level of fitness and you want to be a crypto-linguist?

Recon, dude. Trust me.

Honestly, you really think that'd cut it? First Recon would be pretty interesting, I've thought a lot about it and I wouldn't mind volunteering to fight, especially in Recon.. but what am I going to do with that outside the military? I want to do the linguist position so I'll have job training and a viable skill to make myself a fair chunk of change as a private contractor in D.C., I want to join the military because I've always wanted to join the military, and I know I'd be a good soldier/desk jockey either way. I can deal with the r-tard commanding officers, all the bull shit, all the orders, I can't deal with never giving it a chance, and showing myself I CAN.

But on a side not, how do you feel about my cardiostrengthcardio idea? What do they teach you about PT in the military? I do a shit ton of cross fit and jiu jitsu.. that's it
