And So It Begins

Apparently I'm a sadist because I'm totally enjoying the law school applications process. Looking back, the LSAT wasn't nearly as horrible as I thought it was at the time, plus it was quite the bonus that I only had to take it once to get a passable score. The LSAC is kinda the debel for charging me hundreds of dollars to turn some stuff into a pdf ( Read more... )

I hope you get into wherever you'd like to go, but I'll miss you if you leave Maryland. :(

My mom is at UF Law if you want someone to chat with about it. She's on facebook (Juanita).

Also, apply to some places where you might get some cash. The average student loan debt for the 3 years of law school (not including undergrad, etc) is like, $90,000.

I'm excited for you!

(612) 723-6996 if you want to talk about it.

Thanks Tara!

How do I know what schools I might get some cash from? I've gotten tons of schools giving me the application fee waiver, but so far, not much about scholarships. FSU has a small one of like $5000/year and GSU has one for students who are committed to IP Law. I dunno, I'm finding this scholarship thing confusing.

How are you? Have you gotten a job?

officialguide.lsac.org, that gives the percentage of students recieving scholarships and at what level. Super helpful. Also, those FL schools are a really great deal even if you don't land a scholarship. It is OBSURD how cheap they are to begin with. I think my mom's tuition is like, $8,000 or something. Full tuition at my school is $32,000 and our state school isn't any better.

I would take your waiver forms, put them in order of interest and just start applying down the pile until you're sick of it and/or don't want to pay to have crap sent there. Can't hurt and you never know who is going to throw you a nice offer.

Re: Job. No, its really really bad out there. We're anticipating that a much higher percent will have to wait for bar results before they actually get offers. I'm actually considering going it alone in an estate planning practice (in conjunction with some random waitressing job or something) right away in October. We'll see!
