I do apologize for this being horribly overdue and, hopefully, if you've been here already, something in my LJ hinted or helped you. My life kind of... exploded there for a week. XD
That said, this is the part you really came for so
I just want to thank you right away for signing up for this great tradition. I've been doing it 5 years and counting now and it's a wonderful thing every time. Have fun with this please!
Nancy Drew series (book)
As I said in the request, this is pretty much your freebie category. I am open to mystery, humor, drama, het, and sapphic. I grew up with these books and periodically re-read them for the hell of it. I've even read about the publishing history of them (and this totally explains why one volume refers to a cougar attack in the previous story that WAS NOT THERE in my copy - way to retrofit poorly, guys) and just the extra fiddly bits in general. I love the simplicity and the humor and the sweetness/goofiness of them. They're comfort books. That said, please avoid anything too dark or deadly. I would be heartbroken to face a drug-addicted prosti-Nancy mourning the shiving of her pimp Ned in my mailbox. XD
Modesty Blaise (comics or books)
I think I spelled it out pretty much in my request here. Heh. We all know what happens to Modesty and Willie in the end so I'd like to know more about what happens to them on the way there. Or what could have happened to them. I'm a fan of their canon relationship but I'm also a sucker for the undertones of romance that I like to think I see. Go with either but please let me see the huge respect and affection they have for each other. I would love a well-done caper but, in reality, I will be just as happy seeing them interact at The Treadmill in a slice of life scenario.
Mirrormask
I'll admit it. I'm a shipper here on this one and, in my heart of hearts, I'd love to see a Helena-centric fic dealing with her feelings for Valentine and for not-Valentine. A first date gone right or gone wrong, sharing the memories in the form of "hey, I had this wacky dream and you were there." Anything which brings her two worlds into parallel or conflict would be happiness to me. Um... No character death please? (I'm sure you're noticing a trend here...)
Ruse
Ah, another great pairing for me, Emma Bishop and Simon Archard. I don't care if this is a 'ship or just a straight-up working tale. My main affection for this fandom is the characters and how they interact. I love the banter and the sudden slips - one admitting the other is right or there was a huge amount of trust or something equally sweet and stubbornly suppressed. They compliment each other well (even if they pretend they don't) and they work amazingly well despite themselves. The only thing I ask is no character death and, if you fancy trying for something in the upper MPAA ratings (which would blow my mind, frankly, and impress me), keep it away from the more esoteric kinks. As nice as it would be to have Simon gagged, I think the world would implode. XD
Again THANK YOU!
