For those of you with Twitter, I advise you check out #spanishrevolution. This is going to be a serious post. I'm leaving this unlocked, so that if anyone wants to link to this, they can.

But I'm putting it under a cut, because it might get long. )

Oh man, I am going to signal boost this all over the place. This kind of thing NEEDS to be heard and read about.

Now, if only Puerto Rico could get off its lazy ass and do something about OUR government.

Do that! I agree that it needs publicity, because even though elections have been today, the protesters have decided to keep being there for another week while shaping their manifesto fully.

As far as that goes, who knows - you might start a spark in someone's head, someone might organize something, and then something else, and...then this sort of thing could happen there too.

How've the elections gone? Any violence?

I think Puerto Rican's are so afraid -- or at least hesitant -- to move or protest anything because of how the government always reacts to it. The last protest we had was one where our main public college system was almost shut down, which is twelve something campuses, while every protest before that was met with riot squads and SOME form of violence.

So far the results aren't up, but as far as violence goes, there's been none. So I'm happy, that it's still pacific. I need to be reminded not to read certain newspapers which belong to certain political parties, because seeing comments such as 'this is an attack to public order and the constitution and they should have the riot squads sent against them' had me seething.

Oh, right - I remember having read about that at a point! I think right now, there's a whole new generation of people out there willing to make a change and start something new, and the advantage is that we're young and (mostly still) optimistic about change being possible. So I'm hoping eventually even Puerto Rico put their foot down.

I just remembered I took this picture three days ago, at Sergel's Square in Stockholm.

It's so heartening to see that even in Sweden, there's movement for this.
