As I was driving home last night, I kept wondering things like "what if I stopped paying attention to the road and 'accidently' drove into that semi next to me?" or "what if I decided to take the scenic route and 'accidently' turn the wheel, thus causing me to drive straight into the river

I don't know how to say this, but if I have faith, you should have faith. You have freewill, and you can succeed, if you think you can. It will suck hard, yes, but I can see you doing quite well teaching preschool and the like. Just stick in there, things always get better if you wait.
