He's pretty cute. :) And, he looks like he might grow up into a big puffball.

That's guaranteed. We went in dead set on a DSH, but his personality was just irresistible.

DSH = domestic shorthair? I think?

Anyway, in my cat experience, longhairs shed *way* less, so that's a big bonus. And, they make me sneeze a lot less. I don't know how kitty-allergy-having you two are though.

Just be sure to get him used to being brushed now. Get a good wire brush that gets all the way to his skin, and brush him often. Mats are painful for the cats, and getting them shaved out is embarrassing. ;)

I have a kitty that looks like that!! They are fun, he looks like he's a maine coon. They are freakin smart, too. My mom has been feeding a stray that comes to our back porch for a while, he is pretty much an outdoor cat that is part of the family now. She named him Cowboy, and he is the WEIRDEST looking cat evar. Big, weirdly shaped head, annoying meow, the works. But he's so ugly he's cute. It is hilarious. I told her Zane and Julie got a cat and she asked why I didn't have them take one of ours. I suppose she will say the same thing about you two.
Yay, we are in the same city!!

PAWS Chicago, a sort of super-nice brand new shelter. He was donated by someone who couldn't take care of he and his littermates.

I forgot to add that they all come neutered/spayed and have their first round of shots. They also give you a 2-week trial in case the cat's personality dramatically changes once they get into a new environment.

Some food links you might find interesting. I found that the stuff we'd always thought was ok food isn't horrific, but it wasn't really good either.

Of course, if you don't want to buy pretentious cat food, most people would understand.

Pretty good PI thread about foods:

Offsite goon posting about foods. This one is much more pretentious and feeds his/her cats actual lamb and rabbit meat or some crazy shit, but there are still reviews of normal food you can buy.

Meh. Until you have 2 cats, there isn't much reason not to name them "Cat"

Yeah I'm having a hard time thinking of him as anything other than "Cat"
