Course is going great, but...
I am no longer in a game on Wednesday nights. Not all of you will know how big a deal this is to me, but I have been a member of HUGS for twelve years now and have loved almost all of it. There was a time when the gaming society was heavely fractured, but due to the fine work of several individuals we have a great society for a few years now.
SO great that we have had a record number of nwe recruits this year and it was up to me to fit them all into games (I didn't have to, I took over duties from Ritchie since she has tons on her plate at the moment, and I just wanted to help). Even with loads of gamers I was going ok, everyone had been told that nobody was allowed to dibs a place in the games and that freshers were to get first choice, then everyione else would give me their top three choices.
Still going well.
Four freshers to a game, and with a couple of shifts around (Myself in my fourth choice - I didn't want people to think I was putting myself in for my choice first, so I took one for the team), I had a pretty good list, with only a couple of spelling mistakes.
Last night everyone got to see the list and there was not a single problem. YAY!
But wait... Who is that girl who wasn't here last week when I got everyone's choices? It's a friend of one of the GMs and he promised her a place in his game months ago (BOOO! HISSS!) without telling me I had to fit her in. I was all for saying no. She had turned up late, and everyone who was in said game really wanted to be in said game, but I was told it just had to be done. A guy who had it has first choice gets kicked out, and he ends up in his third choice; my fourth choice.
With no other room I was slipped quietly out of the game with only a minor stomping of my feet and throwing my list against the wall when I realised he could only fit in to the game I was in. The game already had eight players and that can be too big a group when half the players have very little or no experience at gaming, I refused to put an extra player in, just because of the disruption to the other players.
I am going along next week to lend a hand at character creation for the game I am no longer in, then all I can do is hope somebody drops out of a game. Usually not a prblem, but unlike previous years when there is a staedy drop off for the first three weeks and then just a few hardcore gamers left, this year, the twenty-one freshers are all still here, and a couple more have turned up.
I need something to do on a Wednesday.
