9. Lust
It was supposed to be just a quiet New Year in. Except that Elaine had ended up nearly in Harry's lap. Although Harry had been determined to keep their relationship slow, his body was reminding him of how long it had been since he was this close to a woman. Especially a woman he loved.
He leaned down and brushed his lips against her neck. She turned to kiss him. He forgot how to hold her up and they ended up with her lying on top of him on the sofa. Then neither of them could remember how to stop.
34. Tune
As with many of the decisions involving their wedding, Harry had left it to Elaine to choose the music for their first dance. He didn't really mind too much what it was and he trusted her not to pick something he would hate, and to make sure he could move to it, despite his injured knee. He already knew he was right to marry her when he twirled her to the music and her smile matched his own. He nearly forgot he couldn't put too much weight on one leg as he relished the experience of dancing with his wife.
39. Superstition
"You know," Harry said thoughtfully, "there's an old superstition among sailors that say it's unlucky to have a woman aboard." He wasn't sure he believed in it, but felt it worth pointing out in case they capsized and he got the blame.
Elaine folded her arms. "So there's no women in the Navy then?"
He had to admit there were.
"And you've never served on a boat with one."
He tried not to squirm under her stare.
"And you did promise to teach me to sail?"
Why did he always fall for women he could never win an argument against?
83. Author's choice - Tradition
"It's tradition in my family," Harry explained to his stepdaughter. "Everyone has their initial on the bottom of a chess piece. And since you're now part of the family, you can have one too."
Kelly considered the board. "Does it matter which one?"
Harry shook his head. "Whichever you think is most appropriate for you."
She looked at the bottom of a few pieces, but Harry didn't know what she was thinking. Eventually, she picked up the pawn. "As there aren't going to be any more Sullivans, I'll always be the youngest," she explained and Harry couldn't argue with that.
100. Author's choice - at his wedding
At his reception Harry watched his stepmother and new stepdaughter as they chatted over their buffet and wine. Although Elaine had met his stepmother a time or two, as far as he knew, Kelly hadn't. They looked as if they were getting on well, which Harry was glad about. He just wasn't sure what relationship they were to each other. Should it be step-granddaughter or step-step-granddaughter? Either way it didn't really matter in the end. His stepmother was pleased to be gaining a granddaughter, since she wouldn't be getting any others, and Kelly was happy enough to have another grandmother.
