I was taking the garbage out last night and looking at the moon through a veil of clouds and the black clutching fingers of the trees and thinking how very much I would like to try and capture this kind of thing. Given that digital cameras these days tend to let you take some limited quantity of video as well as still images, processing speed should not be an issue.

Also, while megapixels aren't a huge issue, you do want to get high-megapixels rather than software-enhanced stuff. Better to do that on your computer than to sacrifice source-data quality.

Can't say what particular camera's best for you, though I do like my Canon. *shrugs*
