Character Background: Kakashi is a high-ranking Konoha ninja and considered one of the strongest in their village. His skills namely lie in ninjutsu (ninja techniques that are heavily dependent on chakra), but he is quite adept in taijutsu (body fighting or hand-to-hand combat) and genjitsu (ninja illusion techniques). Friends and foes alike known him as the powerful 'Copy Ninja' because of his sharingan left eye, which is said to have copied over a thousand techniques that are never demonstrated in the series--he focuses on basically using the same ten that we all already know he can use. His one and only original move is 'Chidori' (thousand birds), but it became upgraded to 'Raikiri' (lightning blade) when he was able to slice through a bolt of lightning.
Although his sharingan gives him great advantages in battle, its main disadvantage is that it constantly remains active and therefore quickly drains at his chakra. He will not use it unless absolutely necessary or when he knows there's a good opportunity to understand an opponent's techniques. (Note that nearly every non-training battle since Zabuza has been so tough that Kakashi almost always resorts to using his sharingan.) It is unknown when or how Kakashi's mangekyo sharingan variant became activated, but its abilities include long-range space-time manipulation and can send objects into different dimensions. However, this variant easily tires Kakashi; after three uses, he was hospitalized for a week.

He is willing to supervise them as they mainly teach themselves teach them; moreover, he advises them in situations that resemble his depressing past experiences. Despite this, he is unwilling to allow them to get too close to him and confirmed that all who were important to him are deceased. He has almost entirely evaded showing his face to anyone, and he does not divulge about his life or interests. When introducing himself to Team 7, he vaguely mentions having "many hobbies"--his only one of his most apparent hobbies is reading the "Icha Icha" series of pornographic novels written by Jiraiya. He is most commonly found reading one of these books during training sessions or speaking with his team, and he is comfortable reading these books in the open while wandering around Konohagakure.
From the way that Kakashi taught and trained Team 7, he tried to refrain from elaborating and only provided vague details of the past. When he admonished Sasuke about revenge, he spoke with sorrow and his actions or movements suggested regret. On the weekend of his birthday (Sep 15), Kakashi was caught up in a very unusual rush of feelings. He quickly befriended Matsumoto Rangiku, and they became friends with benefits very very early that morning when he showed her some fireworks. Not long afterward, he went to meet his cute student Sakura and provided her with a special 'taijutsu review'. On the afternoon of his birthday, he responded to Rikku's call to all men and showed her some fireworks as well. Finally, the weekend ended, and he found himself laden with guilt for having so much birthday love. He could only be thankful that Lime did not understand his desperate birthday needs, but in the meanwhile, it was time for him to sort out the confusion from that crazy event.
Shortly after a party on the lower level, he heard Rikku's voice post (Oct 27) as she tried to hide from a terrible storm. In his worry, he rushed out to find her; when he found her, he felt more relieved than he'd ever expected himself to feel. While trying to distract her from the ongoing storm, they wound up conversing about their feelings for each other--in which Rikku confessed feelings of love for him. Although torn by an intense attraction to her and the fear of losing her, he made up his mind that he wanted her; in his world, that was a confession of love to her. Since then (actually, since his 'love weekend' birthday, no matter how manipulated or influenced), they became a couple, but it didn't start sounding official until sometime afterward.
The gods then removed the restrictions on everyone's special powers, abilities, and magic (Sep 29). At that time, he was with a team that was investigating the hospital on the lower level. The shinigami Ryuk took note of Kakashi's interesting-looking eye (the sharingan) and decided it would be fun to test the Death Note on him. Kakashi died on Sep 30, proving the Death Note test a success. He revived shortly afterward, running into Rikku when he went to meet with Jiraiya, and found out that he could not remember having Team 7 (Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke) as his students. After Aaron requested that the rest of Team 7 follow Sasuke when he went out to meet Orochimaru, Kakashi ran into Karasu and died in battle against him (Oct 3). Kakashi attempted to form a united rescue effort for those caught in the chaos.

He requested from them a costume that would match the one chosen by his lover, Rikku; she had requested her Lady Luck dress sphere, and he wound up dressing as the Mad Hatter. Shortly after the ball, his monk friend Miroku transformed into a monster; the only way to stop Miroku was to kill him, and Kakashi was the one to put the monk out of his misery. When Miroku revived only shortly after Kakashi had killed him, Kakashi relayed further information about Purgatorium deaths to Professor Hojo.
A couple days afterward (Nov 5), Kakashi and Rikku had some dissension concerning Sasori, a friend Kakashi wished Rikku never made. In discussing the situation, Rikku proposed two conditions that Kakashi needed to fulfill so that she'd cease further exchanges with Sasori: (1) move heavy things in her garage for an entire month (2) obtain a kitten for her. He quickly challenged Rikku to a three-day race to see who would obtain a kitten first, but it would only begin after they had gathered enough information to ensure that normal, non-hybrid, non-mutated kittens existed in Purgatorium. Meanwhile, Sasori decided to show Misao the wonders of chakra, and Misao sought Kakashi and Sakura for advice concerning chakra and her possible training with it. Kakashi gave Misao an aptitude test and discovered a hidden potential on the same day that he declared the start of the kitten-finding race (Nov 12).
Kakashi found kittens and won the race (Nov 15) only to find that Rikku was held in the lower level against her will. The following day, he and some friends searched for her, mostly running in circles and walking into dead ends. Misao became suspicious of Professor Hojo, who cleared his name in his journal by claiming Rikku was a no-show for a scheduled appointment. Meanwhile, Kakashi related to some of Jenova's riddles and pressed further to discover a connection to Rikku. With this lead, he broke one of the Purgatorium upper level rules to confront Jenova head-on (Nov 20). Unfortunately, Jenova used his mild paranoia and Rikku's situation to her advantage; he began to second-guess his thoughts and actions when Mao arrived to play with his head. Defeated and influenced by the mind-reader, he went into hiding from feelings of self-guilt, blame, and loathing.
After Rikku's return, she noted that Kakashi had gone missing but very easily found him. He returned with her to the upper level and made apologies for losing his cool (Nov 29). With Jenova still on his mind, Kakashi was informed that Logan had disappeared and upon returning was not acting like himself; he and others began to tie the disappearances together. However, he could not figure out the missing pieces and broke the upper level rules yet again in order to confront Logan about Jenova while prepared to die in the process (Dec 1).
He returned to life (Dec 3) but hadn't learned much from his encounter with Logan. Prepared to start again from scratch, he set out to gather information from square one when he ran into Andrew, who told him about Hojo and Jenova's stories from a video game back in his world. Kakashi pressed for a means to free those who were infected by Jenova; provided two answers, he began to search for a way to mentally strengthen Rikku and help her break away from Jenova's control. In confusion, Yachiru asked how Kakashi could accept the way that Logan killed him without any remorse. After he explained the Jenova situation, they teamed up to try and save their loved ones from Jenova.
Meanwhile, Sasuke met with and killed Naruto. Sakura asked if Kakashi was okay, and he apologized for devaluing his memories and ignoring the team that he couldn't remember having. A little before going to search for Naruto, Rikku suddenly offered both her and Kakashi's services to Schuldig's strip club, Sunde. In a misunderstanding, Sakura threatened to destroy the club but instead went to search for her felled teammate. The next day, Kakashi assured his employer that nothing was going to happen to the club while apologizing to Sakura for his boss's crude joke.
In a confrontation on Jenova's journal, Kakashi showed Rikku that if he needed to confront Jenova once more to get Rikku back, he would take that risk. Also, because of ShinCo's poor handle of the Jenova and Hojo situation, Kakashi expressed distrust for the company and offered his services to Yachiru's defense force. Shortly afterward, Ed accused Rikku of killing Itachi; she made a private entry to Kakashi to explain that she'd be leaving for a short while but would be back. In response to that entry, Kakashi convinced Rikku to at least talk to him so that they could overcome Jenova together (Dec 10). During this conversation he realized that he has forgotten the name of the person to whom he owes his life and his sharingan left eye. Although they talked it over, they did not come to a complete agreement; after a few days of mulling it over, he decided that he would meet with Jenova.
There was a sudden change of plans when the infected and some new allies broke Hojo out from ShinRa's custody (Dec 15). Andrew notified Kakashi of the commotion, and he arrived on the scene after Andrew realized that he could not summon demons. The two were assessing the damage and trying to figure out what was going on when Hojo's raiding party was escaping from the building. Kakashi faced off with Rikku, determined not to let her escape unless it was over his dead body; however, there was no way she could bring herself to kill him and instead settled for dealing critical injuries before fleeing.
Although he had all intention of attending an upcoming ball, Kakashi disappeared for approximately three weeks. When he finally returned, he wasn't in the soundest of mind; The arrancar Szayel Apollo Grantz had captured and experimented on the ninja, releasing him to determine the results of his attempts to force telepathy on his subjects. It took nearly a week for him to gather his bearings; while he had attempted to apologize to Rikku for his bizarre behavior upon returning, she rejected him. Shortly afterward, Kakashi and Rikku broke up during a chance meeting in the junk yard. Since then, he has been doing odd jobs in various places and helping Misao as she began to start up her inn.
Shortly afterward, Kakashi snapped back to his senses and asked Rikku if they could talk; unfortunately, this confirmed that their relationship was over. During a strange 'affection' event, Misao confessed her feelings for Kakashi, and he accepted. Shortly afterward, he disappeared.
