Character Name: Donna Noble
Fandom: Doctor Who (taken just after the s4 episode Midnight)
Gender: Female
Age: About… 36 or so?
Sexuality (if applicable): Heterosexual
Original or Anomaly?: Original
Appearance: Donna’s a tall woman - roughly about 5’8” tall. She has ginger hair, blue-grey eyes and to round off the picture, a rather impressive bust.
Personality: Donna can be summed up to the casual observer in three words: bold, brash and loud. She isn’t afraid to give orders or share her opinions on any subject, no matter who hears them or how they might react - and she isn’t afraid to shout them, either! She can come off as abrasive and bossy, especially when she’s angry or annoyed - and she isn’t afraid to lash out with a quick comeback or tell anyone that they’re wrong, even if they’re the Doctor.
But this is just one side of her. As well as being excitable, loud, and easily riled up, Donna is also an intensely caring and motherly person. She’s down-to-earth and practical with a strong sense of right and wrong - so much so that she often acts as the Doctor’s moral compass, the one who tells him to stop. She’s insightful and understanding and has a big heart with room for everyone - even if the way she interferes sometimes in an effort to help makes her seem like a busybody. Donna is incredibly loyal to her friends and family and will do almost anything to help them, defending them both verbally and from physical harm.
But underneath all of her apparent confidence and the shoutiness, Donna is an incredibly insecure person. She’s painfully aware of her own shortcomings - her lack of intelligence, how ignorant she was before she met the Doctor, how she’s never amounted to anything in life - and her sense of self-worth is really low. She truly believes that up against everyone else, she’s nothing special - that if she doesn’t shout, no one will bother to notice her.
History: You wouldn’t have ever guessed that Donna Noble was destined for something amazing. She was born and bred in Chiswick, a suburb near London, where she lived with her mum and dad, living a fairly normal and uneventful life. Although even as a child she was willful, once taking a bus on her own and going missing in an attempt to give herself a holiday, nothing special really happened as she grew up.
She was only ever average in school and didn’t go to university, instead drifting from job to job or working for one of London’s many temping agencies. She was in many ways completely mediocre and surrounded herself with reality TV, pub quizzes and her friends. She even managed to miss all of the alien activity that went on as the 21st century kicked off, dismissing it all as a hoax.
This all changed when one day, Donna turned left instead of right and signed up as a temp at H.C Clements, where she met Lance. She was instantly smitten with him, and he, seemingly, with her, and they made plans to get married. But all was not as it seemed. Lance was secretly working with the Racnoss Queen, feeding Donna Huon particles as part of their plan to reawaken the baby Racnoss at the Earths core and prey on the human race.
Luckily, the particles in Donna attracted her to the TARDIS on her wedding day, where she met the Doctor. Although the two were mutually unhappy with each other’s company at first, they managed to foil the Racnoss’ plan. However Donna, heartbroken from Lance’s betrayal and scared of the way the Doctor had slaughtered the Racnoss babies, refused the Doctor’s offer to travel with him.
But there was no going back after that. Her eyes had been opened to the wonders of the universe and she was determined to travel the world. But the package holidays she found were a disappointment for her new-found thirst for adventure, and so she found herself back living in her parents’ house, working for the temping agency. During the next two years, her father died and her granddad moved in with Donna and her mother.
Donna realized that she needed to find the Doctor again, and so while working as a temp she made sure to investigate any conspiracies or places that looked as if aliens might be involved in the hopes that he would show up. But nothing came of it until she investigated Adipose Industries. The Doctor had also been investigating them and the two were reunited and defeating Miss. Foster together. The Doctor re-extended his offer and Donna was thrilled to accept.
The two had many adventures together through time and space, going everywhere from ancient Pompeii to the Oodsphere and on occasion having adventures with old companions, such as Martha Jones, and companions who were apparently from the Doctor’s future, such as the mysterious River Song. It was during their meeting with River that Donna discovered that River didn’t know who she was - and refused to say why.
Donna and the Doctor had just returned from the Doctor’s misadventure on the diamond planet of Midnight when Donna went to sleep in her room - and woke up on a completely different ship…
Strengths:
- Supertemp: Donna may not be that intelligent, but she’s picked up a lot of useful life skills in her years as a temp. She’s observant and organized and remembers the things she’s seen, and no one can find their way around an office or type better than she can.
- Her compassion and loyalty: Donna has sympathy and a listening ear for everyone - even some of those that the Doctor would brush off or ignore. This is one of her greatest strengths.
- It could very well be argued that the way the Doctor listens to her is a big strength - Donna is one of the only people who has got him to change his mind about things.
Weaknesses:
- Her self-esteem: At the bottom of her heart, Donna believes that she’s nothing special at all, which isn’t helped by her mother’s constant put-downs. Her self-belief - or lack of it - is a huge weakness for her.
- Donna isn’t especially clever and often needs things explaining or pointed out to her. She sometimes still has trouble seeing the bigger picture, despite the way the Doctor has opened her eyes.
