[RL w/Jacky; Sailing on the High Seas]

Shuraiya settled back in the dingy booth, fingers running over the edge of his laptop before closing and pushing it aside, reaching instead for the heavy glass of rum to his right. It had been thankfully refilled by a buxom barmaid just moments before while he was fiddling with that ridiculous contraption of his ( Read more... )

Today was shaping up to be a bright day for the girl. Having just been relinquished of the virus, she felt more alive. But old memories had been renewed in her mind, many of them coming from her younger years. A certain memory she recalled is what gave her the idea for today.

A small girl entered the tavern Shuraiya had mentioned to her. She wondered if taverns preferred to be named after animals? There was one back home, her favorite tavern, called the Pig and Whistle. It was unimportant, but still and interesting fact. She paid little attention to the other people around, not really knowing how things worked out here, and preferred to just find Shuraiya. And of course, there was her friend sitting off in a booth to himself.

Dressed in her sailing outfit from her time on the Emerald Jacky walked over to where Shuraiya sat. "Hello there, Shuraiya," She said cheerfully. She had to be careful not to use her old speech patterns again. The bad habit seemed to resurface with the virus. "And how are you today?" She asked him.

Shuraiya grinned when Jacky arrived; even in this bright and colorful world, she was somewhat dulled in comparison -- he'd always wondered if James would look like that, muted and obvious in a place so saturated and beautiful. He sighed, quietly conceding that he probably would never know.

Letting darker thoughts retreat to the back of his mind, he distracted himself with the way Jacky carried herself, obviously relieved to have recovered from the virus (Shuraiya was more than grateful that this one had passed him. From what he understood, he could have reverted to the mentality of a child -- too many bad memories were contained in that shaggy head of his, he would not have liked to relive them) and she was walking with the confident gait of a sailor that should have betrayed her sex, had Shuraiya not known better.

"'m good," he grinned, setting his mug down and waved a hand to the bench across from himself, "You wanna sit? Or you wanna get down to business?"

"I've been up and about for days, I think a moment to sit would be nice," Jacky responded, still smiling. seeing Shuraiya definitely did good for her mood. Especially with what she had planned for today.

She took a seat across from Shuraiya. "Oi. What passes for a drink around here?" She demanded. "No strong spirits though. I've sworn those off." She added the last bit as more of a reminder to her. Never shall she get drunk again. Milly, her best friends dog and her hero, had nearly died saving Jacky after a drunken mishap. On Milly's honor Jacky would resist the temptation of strong spirits.

Jacky smiled to herself as she stuck her hand in her pocket and touched the gold ring to make sure she still had it. It was necessary for the Dread Brotherhood, the Brotherhood Jacky wanted to make Shuraiya a part of. He was her brother now and it was only fair. In time, though. In time.

Her cheerfulness was... well, it was unnerving, almost, for the bounty hunter, and it took him a moment to realize that the girl was simply happy to see him. Shuraiya had spent too long in this dark world of piracy; he had nearly forgotten in the last few months that there were people in this world (and others, clearly) who actually gave a damn about each other, not for any monetary gain, but simply because they cared. It was, in a word, bizarre ( ... )
