[Rachel is pale, lifeless, and covered up to her throat with a blanket in the clinic. The feed continues that way for a couple of minutes until -- there is the slightest amount of movement. Her chest, moving up and down, in slow, ragged, painful breaths -- and then Rachel's eyes flicker open, dull and confused --

-- and then she begins to panic.] ( Read more... )

[By the time Anna shows up in her room, Rachel is doing the wonderfully intelligent thing of... ... ... still trying to get out of her bed. It isn't working out very well. Everything hurts and her throat is covered in deep bruises and burns, and the crying isn't helping with the pain.]

Anna, I --

[She manages to push herself up to sitting up, though her arms are trembling with the effort, and she stares at the angel, with wide eyes and hair everywhere.]

-=He waited till evening, giving the people closest to her the chance to visit. And now that he's at her door, he can't really make it inside. He's standing there in the doorway, not really looking at the bed, but the floor just before it, leaning his right side against the wood as if to hide the fact he still doesn't have his arm attached yet.=-

... Hey.

[By now, Rachel has calmed down enough to not panic. To accept what had happened. To try and... and sort out what had happened. -- no, she can't quite do that yet, and when Edward stays in the doorway, Rachel is staring blankly ahead at the wall, taking the moment or two of respite to just... be.

But when Edward says something, Rachel looks over a little too quickly, startled, and she cringes to herself, her hands moving up slowly to cup around her throat and neck, fingers shaking.

What if she lost her voice?]

...

[She takes a deep, trembling breath, and fixes Edward with a look.]

I want to go home.

[Stubborn to the last.]

-=He caught the flinch and it makes him cringe. He couldn't stop this. He practically tore off his own arm to try to stop it and it still was too little, too late.=-

I know.

-=He's not going to tell her that Blaine made the exectutive decision to leave. That's not his place. This time he walks forward, gait a little lopsided because of his lack of arm and looks down at her.=-

-=His eyes are glassy.=-

I tried to stop him.

[Blaine is in for a sorry surprise, because Rachel is the leader of their gang of misfits, thank you very much, and what she says goes. Or, at least, she likes to think so. And she's about to say so when she stops, watching Edward walk, and she immediately pushes herself up to try and stand, abruptly forgetting about -- well, much of everything.]

Where is your arm?

[It's a hoarse whisper.]

[Blaine's been sitting at Rachel's bedside for a while now, watching over her body and hoping that she would just wake up soon. His eyes have been drooping for the last hour and he's nearly fallen asleep when Rachel comes back to life. The noise startles him awake and it takes him a second to realize what's going on.]

[He nearly falls out of his chair when he realizes that Rachel has come back to life. He lets out a choked sob that is sort of mixed in with a small laugh as tears gather in his eyes.]

Rachel! Take it easy, it might be a little while until you can move properly.

Blaine --

[A hand reaches out to grab his arm painfully tight as Rachel steadies herself in an attempt to push herself up again. She's trembling.]

Blaine, I don't -- I don't want to be --

[And her free hand moves to her throat, and her trembling doubles, because -- ]

-- it hurts --

[He lets her grab his arm and he tries to help her sit up as much as possible. If she needs to hold onto his arm to keep steady, Blaine would let her do it for as long as needed.]

Please calm down. You're safe now, everything's going to be fine.

I'm sorry Rachel, maybe Ms. Unohana can do something about your throat. I can ask her for you, if you'd like.

Blaine, I -- I --

[She can't quite manage to say 'I died', and she stays upright, swaying gently with the effort.]

... yes. I -- please.

[She jolts a little, startled at the sudden appearance, but pushes herself up to sitting regardless, shaking with the pain and effort. She manages to choke something out, but it hurts -- ]

I --

[Try again, Rachel.]

-- my throat, it -- it hurts, I don't --

[And her tone dips into a whisper as she wraps her hands around her throat, her cold fingers helping soothe the pain -- but her fingers line up with the fingerprints -- and she immediately drops her hands into her lap with a stifled sob, and she looks at the angel, almost pleadingly.]

Stop.

[Raphael takes a step closer, then another, and presses her fingers very gently to the girl's injured throat. It's easy to suss out the damage, though she doesn't dare attempt healing. Not after what happened to Katara, and the damage that left her screaming.]

You will heal. Speaking out loud is not necessary. [A look.] Angels can lip-read.

[She stares at her, and the coldness of the fingers actually feels nice against the electrical burns and bruises, though she flinches at the pressure. Why can't Raphael just heal her? She was the Angel of -- ]

But --

[And then, Rachel realizes that Raphael just told her not so speak, so she falls silent abruptly, mouthing the the words instead.]

What if it doesn't?
