Personality: Kyouko on the surface is a tough as nails, no holds barred girl. She doesn't tolerate anyone's crap and is crass, especially so in terms of her mouth. She tends to lace her words with profanity and other terms that are either childish or unsavory. That, and she's selfish, which happened because of what happened with her family at the end. She initially was selfless and wanted to help her family out with her skills, but it turned out horribly wrong, and as a result, she became selfish instead. In addition to this, she also takes what she wants when she can get her hands on it. Although, this isn't quite who Kyouko is when you strip away the strong front she has.
When it comes down to it, Kyouko is the friend you want. When she finds someone like herself, she'll become very interested in them and want to see what they're like. It's almost like sizing up the competition to her, in a way. She'll have a healthy dose of friendly competition with them and want nothing more than a good throw-down just to see what skills they have laying underneath, as well as the kind of person they are that isn't revealed by just looking at someone. And, once she does find someone who can hold her attention and keep her interests high, she'll do what she can to be their friend and make sure they're taken care of. This is largely because she doesn't want anyone to suffer like she has in the past. The other reason is that she wants to see if they mean what they say instead of just stating empty promises to her, which will make her lose the previous attraction she had with them.
What's worth mentioning is her food consumption. She's always seen eating something so that she can be full. This stems from the life she's know thus so far and the fact that her family went without the basic necessities for weeks at a time. She eats to feel whole. She wonders when the next meal's going to be. Thus, this is why that, even when she's full, she has to keep on snacking in order to keep herself from being hungry. If she doesn't have food, she will go into a panic about not knowing when she'd be able to find the resources necessary to get her next meal. When she gets upset, she tends to eat more food than needed in order to cope with what's going on, which is like her security blanket.
One thing that she's wavering on is her faith. She used to be big on her religion thanks to her father, however when he snapped and killed his family because of Kyouko's puella magi abilities, she grew to hate it since it was something connected to him. It even went as far as her referring to religion as false hope and that something she didn't need. Yet, even with this, she manages to uphold some traditions from religion, such as praying with her rosary beads when things get tough. This also helps when she feels alone so that she knows who to turn to, which is God who she hopes shows her a happy dream.
Abilities: Kyouko is a puella magi, one who defeats witches for their grief seeds, objects that allow a soul gem to be purified so that the puella magi themselves don't become a witch in turn. For Kyouko, her own soul gem grants her a spear that can be separated in several pieces that are connected by a chain. She then can use them to whip someone around or to lengthen how far her attack goes. In addition to this, if there comes a moment when there needs to be enough fire power in a pinch, Kyouko can increase the size of her weapon and fire off a powerful attack that would finish the job, but also leave her very weak and vulnerable for an attack to get to her.
However, since all of these abilities are manifested through a Soul Gem, this means that Kyouko's body can withstand terrific amounts of damage and heal itself, yet this is because Kyouko's own soul is locked away in the gem itself thanks to her being a puella magi.
Without her puella magi abilities, though, Kyouko knows what it's like to live on the streets and so, she knows how to defend herself, has a fair share of street smarts and the like. She also, amusingly, can eat a large amount of food and not get fat from it.
