Could you make a basic sample in calico and get them to work off that , including finishing and stuff ?

yes please!

i spoke to someone there last year, but she said they dont let you keep the pattern if they draw it up for you? maybe doing the initial bit myself would be a better idea..

I remember the two minutes I spent doing my fashion diploma at Massey - how the teachers were REALLY urging us to go into the industry as pattern-makers because there was such a severe lack of decent pattern makers.

I cross my fingers and toes for you!!

That's pretty poor!

I dunno, but for my money I'd do the pattern making myself and get some slavey to do the sewing. I prefer doing the patternmaking and design stage, and the sewing is the cheapest element for me to farm out to an outworker.

good luck :)

not much help at the moment, but I'm looking at working in Auckland next year and I'd be happy to moonlight doing pattern making/grading for you... I would work from a sketch *grin* seeing as I do it all the time at the moment.

I'd offer now but I have too much course work!
