[ This is backdated to evening of August 13th! I couldn't post it sooner due to birthday-related havoc, so here it goes... ]

[ Early in the evening of August 13th, one of the demons and summon beasts shows up in town. This one is completely harmless... in fact, a careful look will reveal it as Aether's moogle, small and fat and moving at amazing ( Read more... )

[Rydia makes her way toward the lake, not seeking a chance to relax but searching for more Eidolons. She suspected that it might be a draw to the Lord of All Waters, even as she dreaded such an encounter. If he was as agitated as the rest, she would essentially be forced to defend herself against her other father-figure. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that.

...so, of course she spots the battle almost immediately upon reaching the lake. Anxiety knots her stomach for a moment, but she was raise to meet her challenges head-on, not shirk them. Striding forward, she calls out.]

Leviathan!

[ The water stops swirling and falls back into the lake as the dragon stops his attack, distracted by Rydia's voice for now. He glances in her direction... and rushes back into the lake when his opponent comes down from the sky with the scythe aimed at his head. ]

Don't get distracted! This isn't a leisurely kind of battle!

[ The dragon responds with a deep, throaty chuckle. The water under Aether suddenly moves violently, revealing itself as a part of Leviathan's body, and tosses him all the way back to the shore. ]

Ugh... [ Aether digs his feet into the ground to keep himself from sliding all the way into a tree. He manages to stop a mere dozen steps away from Rydia. ] Can't you talk later? The two of us are busy right now.

[Rydia frowns. She doesn't know who this guy is and at the moment, she really doesn't care. It's been far too long since she's seen any of her Eidolons.]

No. He raised me and I haven't seen him in over a year. If he wants me to wait, I will, but I'm not going to let you tell me I can't talk to him.

[At that, she turns and nods respectfully to Leviathan.]

Your Majesty...I'm very glad to see you again. When you're doing playing, I need to speak with you.

[Only then does she step back, but not depart. The summoner won't leave without getting the chance to talk to Leviathan on her own, company or not.]

Even if you say that, I...

Rydia. [ Aether inhales sharply as he turns toward the dragon, clearly annoyed by his words being interrupted. ] It has been a while, my child. We surely have a lot to talk about, yet...

[ Large eyes narrow as they focus on his opponent. ]

Let us not be rude. This child challenged me fair and square. I would loathe to waste his time when he has barely any left.

[ The last words seem to have a hidden meaning. Aether shows that much when his entire body tenses and his eyes turn wide from complete shock. There is something Leviathan noticed that he wanted to keep hidden at all costs, that much is certain. ]

[Tia doesn't particularly care about who ends up winning the battle, but that isn't going to stop her from watching anyway. It's bound to be mildly interesting at least.]

[ As a spectacle, the battle is best described as ridiculous. It is one thing for two opposing elements to try and bring each other down, it's another for one to fight water with water...

And yet, that is exactly the path Aether seems to choose with his battle. His axe is as much of a weapon as it is a channeling wand - every swing that passes through water, summons a thin wave that charges toward the giant dragon. It collapses against the scales, only to be answered with a jet of water directed toward the youth. Immediately, the waves rise around him like a shield and, to a cautious eye, fill themselves with crackling lightning.

The best comparison would be a small thunderstorm trying to fight off a tsunami in the ocean. Flashy, and yet completely futile.

The confrontation only begins to go anywhere when a certain young lady shows up on the battlefield. From that moment, the battle lasts for barely another minute - there is a lightning strike followed by the sounds of cracking ice and splashing water, and then, everything grows ( ... )
