This bit is troubling me. It took a while to write it. But I could be over-analyzing it.

Julian was quiet as he was tugged along.

Garak turned him and kissed him as soon as they were in the room. Now that he was certain that the pet was not deceiving him in the least, Julian could be thoroughly ravished. Julian was too lovely.

“Wait,” Julian said. He wiggled as Garak kissed and nudged him toward the bed. He accepted the kisses and fought not to rub the neck ridges. They invited touch. “Garak. Wait.”

“For what?” Garak asked, stopping the kisses as he tugged Julian against him.

Julian pushed at Garak. Garak did not trust him. He could not do this. It was not right. Garak was very desirable, but it could not be done.

Garak rubbed the soft golden body in front of him.

“What is wrong, Julian? I know you are enjoying this.”

Julian wiggled at the heat in his body. Garak would be an amazing lover.

“I can't,” he said, wiggling more.

Garak released him.

“Why?” Garak asked, pushing Julian down on his back on the mattress. Maybe the pet would prefer to belong to Kell.

“Garak,” Julian lay still, seeing the hurt in his friend's eyes for a moment. “You don't trust me. I do not want to be intimate with someone who does not trust me. I believe that trust is a fundamental part of loving relationship. Love, from a human perspective, can not live without trust. I can't do this.”

Garak backed off the pet. The pet felt he did not care. He had done everything he could to be sure that Julian was safe. How could the pet so thoroughly misunderstand? Of course, trusting Julian was difficult. He had never had anyone he could fully trust.

“You are mine,” Garak said, petting one of the shoulders. “I am your master.” Surely the human understood that he was special.

Julian swung his legs over the side of the bed. He sat with his back to Garak.

“Yet, you do not trust your own, do you?” Julian stood up and walked softly to the bed of pillows in the corner.

Garak bit back his demand that the pet return. He would not be reduced to that by a pet. If the pet wanted to sleep on the pillows, Julian was allowed. Garak would not beg. Garak rolled over and scowled. He needed to get Julian to trust him. But how?
