Well this is exciting.

I rather wish I were in Alabama at the moment.

That, and previous periods in areas where G. hirsutum is cultivated are remembered.

You mean New Mexico, right?

Cotton and Green Chilis.

The smell of burning actually reminds me of the smell of roasting Chilis.

I feel out of the loop. What is exciting? Did you get a job offer from UAB?

No job at UAB. There are very large, uncontained fires North, East and South of San Diego. My workplace was closed because of the fires. Which is good, because I work in a lab and we have large volumes of highly flammable materials. And there are mandatory evacuates for folks living about 15 miles north of me.

I am sure you will be okay. I think we will be okay. My father-in-law has a brand-new not even been lived in for a year house right in the middle of the fires in Rancho Bernardo. They are here with us biting their nails to see if their 2 million dollar house goes up in smoke. (We also think their insurance isn't quite enough to cover it if it burns, since they were going to get it appraised for value this week. Sigh.) My heart is breaking for them.

I hope to see you after all this over. Lunch?

I'm so sorry for your in-laws. It sounds like the fire is moving quickly and is burning in patches. Hopefully that means the damage will be less than we might otherwise expect.

I'd love to meet up with you when things calm down. Lunch sounds great. Just let me know when and I'll bring the Jane Austen.
