nVidia Gelato. Free software rendering for the masses is what the site says. There's a free version for download as well. So do we finally have competition for renderman, huh?
I did not mean non real-time. Hardware accelerates a part of the rendering pipeline.
My understanding is that Gelato makes general purpose usage of gpu (gpgpu) and not for the final frame rendering. Gelato promises to scale across networks. BMRT essentially re-implements the renderman language. Has been discontinued for a while. POVRay i don't know if it gets used in production at all. Gelato is aiming for that spot.
