Because I seriously have nothing better to do. Be prepared.
Before I even start, I'd like to direct you all over to
waka_laka's HxH pimp post
here, which has a lot more pictures and less rambling than mine will. :D READ IT.
FIRSTLY. About the series (copied from Wikipedia because I'm bad at summaries):
Hunter × Hunter is about a 12-year-old boy named Gon Freecss and his quest to find his father, Ging Freecss. Ging is a Hunter, which in the setting of Hunter × Hunter means that he is a member of society's elite, with a license to go anywhere or do anything.
It sounds so incredibly boring, but it's actually not. It's pretty much like Naruto, with better characters and without the ninjas. It's a shounen series, so there's lots of action (and plenty of violence in the manga). It's also a lot shorter and doesn't have like three seasons worth of filler episodes. In fact, it's only about 90 episodes long, including the three OVA series that come after the actual anime. The first few episodes kind of suck though, because all you get to see is Gon catching a fish and stalking Leorio, but then after about seven episodes, all the cool characters have appeared.
I'm just going to list random reasons to watch HxH now, just because I don't have this planned out AT ALL.
#1: Killua
He's not really supposed to be first since he's not the main character or anything, but he's amazing so it's okay.
Killua is a 12 year old former assassin who got bored of killing people and rebelled against his psycho family. You just KNOW he's going to be awesome. He's pretty much a chocoholic brat who's really good at killing and thinks he isn't deserving of friends. That doesn't really sound like a character that will capture your heart, but it's impossible not to love him. Seriously, I dare you not to like him.
#2: Gon
It should not be that hard to find more than two decent pictures of a main character of a series. :/
Gon is the main character. Suprisingly, he doesn't really have a Dark Past. He's one of those naive, trust-everyone, makes-friends-with-even-the-baddest-of-the-bad, "I'll never give up!" types. He's a lot like Naruto, except you just can't hate him, because he's not actually annoying at all. At least, he isn't annoying to me, and that's saying something. He's really cute and clueless and it kind of makes you wonder why he's always in fights to the death.
#3: Gon and Killua
Because their friendship is seriously adorable. These two do everything from training to bathing together. Being an assassin for his whole life, Killua didn't really have the chance to go out and make friends. So, Gon is his first friend and Killua really takes that seriously. There are times when the manga was in danger of turning into a shoujo manga because Killua was thinking about how much Gon meant to him and how he wants to protect him. ♥ Gon is the only one who voices how much he cares, and when he says that he's happy when he's with Killua, Killua tells him not to say such embarrassing things.
There's a whole essay thing on their friendship
here at
ship_manifesto that's totally worth reading.
#4: Leorio
Leorio's a big idiot whose goal is to become a doctor because of his Dark Past. He fights regularly with Killua and Kurapica (we'll get to him next) even though he's friends with them. He's pretty cool, but kind of useless. He pretty much disappears for half the series at one point.
His name is really fun to say. :D
#5: Kurapica
Kurapica's the official girly boy of the series. He's actually really strong though, and has the Darkest Past of all the characters. There's this whole arc in the series about his revenge, but I didn't really pay too much attention to it. :D;; Most people say that Kurapica is like Fuji from the Prince of Tennis, but I think he's more like Yuki Sohma from Fruits Basket. :/ Just because he smiles and looks like a girl does not automatically make him Fuji. Even if they DO have the same seiyuu. :|
#6: Leorio and Kurapica
For all the shota-haters out there, this is your new OTP. Since I'm young enough to ship two 12 year olds without feeling like a pedophile, I don't really care about them. :D So I'm just going to skip over this point because I know I won't do them justice.
#7: Hisoka
Hisoka's the strongest guy in the series, I think. Everyone's afraid of him, and for good reason. He's a magician, so his weapon is a deck of cards that are apparently really sharp. You get to see him naked a lot for some reason, and there's this one episode (episode seven of the Greed Island OVA, I think. Either that or the Greed Island Final OVA.) where Killua, Gon, and Bisuke interrupt him while he's bathing so you get to see him naked for like five minutes straight. To fully appreciate Hisoka's weirdness, you need to at least read a bit of the manga AND watch some of the anime. In the manga, he'll follow nearly every sentence of his with a ♦, ♣, ♠, or a ♥. In the anime he just has the creepiest voice ever. I think I nearly had a heart attack when I learned his seiyuu was also that of Kikumaru Eiji from Prince of Tennis.
Oh yeah. He also perves on Gon and Killua regularly. Mostly Gon, though. He calls him an "unripe fruit" that "makes him excited". ;___;
#8: Killua's Family
The Zaoldyecks are the best family of assassins in the world. They even have a tour bus that goes up to their estate's gates. But they're all PSYCHOTIC. To train their children to become assassins, these guys electrocute, poison, whip, and torture their kids. And you thought your parents were mean.
Plus, they have some gender-benders.
Calluto and Illumi are Killua's BROTHERS. Yes, you heard me right. I think half the fandom actually still thinks Calluto's a girl since when we see him, he's wearing a kimono and attacks people with his fan. The only reason I believe he's male is because Togashi said so in some character/data book for the series.
Most people like Illumi for some reason, but I think Killua's dad, Silva, is awesome. He's the only one in the family who approves of Killua's friendship with Gon and there's this really cute Silva/Killua father/son scene during the Zaoldyeck Mansion arc. :DDD This is a really bad picture of him.
Killua's mother is psychotic. She's like a cyborg or something, I have no idea why. But when Killua returns home after the Hunter exam she spazzes out about him the whole time. Then she gets all moved and proud when he glares at her as he leaves.
OKAY SO. I ran out of reasons to give you people. Just trust me and watch this show. It's amazing. And for all you lazy people and the ones who whine "I don't have the time!!" IT DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG. The anime took me about two weeks to watch. Then it took me about another week to read the manga from where the anime left off. SO YOU HAVE NO EXCUSES.
I ran out of things to talk about. :/ So I'll pray I didn't make a million typos and leave you with Gon and Killua battling a blob monster. :D
