Dachau and Wolfsburg

After visiting all the BMW stuff we headed to Dachau to visit the concentration camp memorial site there. It was only about 15km from the BMW headquarters, so basically a suburb of sorts.

I'm a little surprised there's still a busy and thriving town there, what with how synonymous the name Dachau is with the holocaust.  I'd thought people would ( Read more... )

These last few entries were really fun to read. I was especially interested in hearing your thoughts on the camp. Sounds like it made an impression, and I don't think there's any reason to feel bad for not feeling worse. Emotion is a funny thing. I remember once being in a 7-11 about 25 years ago, and as the old man at the counter gave me my change I noticed the faded number tattooed on his forearm. He saw me see it. My blood turned to ice, and I didn't say anything, because I didn't really know what to say, and I was afraid if I said anything I would start to blubber uncontrollably.

The car excursions actually sound interesting, especially the VW factory. I would totally pick up my car there just for the experience. You're a good friend for going - it doesn't seem like an activity you'd choose for yourself (or would you?)

The only thing I would've skipped in retrospect was the Porsche museum. Because it was small, overpriced (though Andrew paid for that one), and because I just don't like Porsche cars at all. But I'm not actively DISinterested in cars, just not actively interested.

Factory tours though, I'd be interested. I find things of that size and scale and intricacy inherently interesting.

Chris hated everything car related. Everything.

Yeah, I was surprised he wasn't even interested in the robots. I'm with you - I could probably stand and watch that for hours. Chris must love something that he would go and stare at for hours...any idea what it would be?
