How Braid, Shaun Tan and Celine Dion reminded me to back up my computer.

So... I'm meant to back up my laptop once a week. But that involves getting an external drive out of the cupboard, deleting or moving any files I don't want to end up in the backup, and hanging around while Disk Utility starts creating an image so I can give it a password to encrypt the backup with. And I have to do all that between stopping ( Read more... )

Braid! Omg Braid! Please talk to me about the ending when you get to it! Because I just finished playing it myself and I can't find anyone to have a good literary discussion about it with and it is AWESOME.

Ooh really? I look forward to that.

I must admit, I was a little disappointed when I discovered the plot started out as "rescue the Princess" - there are less hackneyed (and less female-agency-denying) reasons to do puzzles. I will pay more attention to the story now.

I'm pretty sure the basic premise of the beginning is supposed to be a riff on Mario, but let it suffice to say that it gets a lot.... more.

So last night you went yak shaving?

Indeed. Still, I did manage to wax the car eventually, and it's quite handy having that new hose.

I pictured hose as in doublet-and-hose, and wondered how that helped.

I worked it out.

Now that you mention it, I did shave my legs yesterday.

Right: a new product is clearly called for. It's all about motivation. A computer which dispenses chocolate when you back it up would do wonders for saving humanity's data.

Shall we develop and market it?

Excellent plan. Do you have any contacts in the vending machine industry?

I don't... also been thinking rather too much about this (why yes, what I'm meant to be working on is difficult, thanks for asking ;) and have come up with an almost workable plan ( ... )

T'wasn't me suggesting Braid. I suggested SixVees (AKA VVVVVV). I do, however, have Braid and will now go investigate,

Curious indeed. I wonder who did then?

I do remember you suggesting SixVees - I got as far as installing it at some point in a busy week, and never got around to launching it. I should investigate.

I may have recommended Braid - I did get it for the 360 and raved a bit about it at the time.

Ah, that would be it then.

I am going to try this backing up thing again and hope it doesn't crash my laptop again.

Good luck!

Though, also, *concerned*

It *is* concerning. I want a full backup. I want it to not be difficult and hard, since people kept telling me that it's not hard or difficult... o_O

So yeah, add it to my list of annoyances.

Also, my friend Iain has dropped past again today and has brought in the Eoin Colfer HHGTTG book for you and J if you are interested?

No thanks, we'll pass. Adams was already running out of steam on that series *before* he died.

The thought is appreciated though.
