#firstworldproblems

(which reminds me, probably time to have another look at mobile phone uptake in 3rd-world countries. the infrastructure is so much cheaper to install than those pesky copper cables)

I keep thinking about switching back to telstra. I was with them way back at the beginning, and I used to get a lot of crap for paying through the teth from all my bum friends until they grew up and got jobs and realised that it's paying for a service... but I left them because they were godawful to deal with when I had problems. I'm geting the idea that they're not so bad these days though..

I can't remember whether I was warned at sign-up that there's a $5 monthly charge for Visual Voicemail (worth every cent), but aside from that the service so far has been good. They guys at the franchise on Hay St in West Perth were good to deal with, and tech support were fine.

Optus was a lot more expensive for me, partly because I was paying off my previous phone over two years instead of buying it outright, but also because they put me on the wrong plan to start out with, and it wasn't clear whether I could change down without incurring prohibitive charges.

Telstra I just walked in with a printout detailing my SMS, internet and voice usage itemised over the last six months, and they put me straight on to the cheapest prepaid they had.

I've done exactly the same, changed to Telstra back in January. Will wait until after the Easter break for any updating, thanks for the heads up:) Enjoy Swancon!
