My new orders

Well, it's official. My new orders come Feb 02, 2008 will take me to Norfuck...Norfolk, VA. Though I loathe Norfolk (as most of the Navy does), these orders are kind of sweet. I will be ship's company on a LHD! Specifically, the USS Bataan. Behold:

Congrats! Too bad you won't be there sooner, though- I'm going to be in the Norfolk/Va Beach area at the end of October/beginning of November. I could have harassed you!

Wow, congratulations! That's pretty exciting, and I'd be more surprised if you weren't a little anxious. You've been in FL for awhile, after all!

I read that as the "USS BATMAN" the first time around and I was like, "Dood...WTF...cool!" LOL.

You get a nice break between leaving one command and starting the next. What will you do with it?

To be honest, I don't want to leave FL at all. I STILL want to make my home here. However, there were no billits (Civilian translation: orders) for this area. Most are for the USS George Washington which is going to Japan.

Seeing how I could not get my ideal orders to stay in FL, these are pretty good. At least I won't be on an aircraft carrier. And it's looking like I may be able to live out in town once I get there as opposed to living on the ship...except for deployments, of course.

I'm trying to put a positive spin on things here. After all, I could have gotten worse orders. And the folks that have been out to sea say that I'm lucky to be on an LHD.

aaaah sweet!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I see a ship like that and I think of Xavier (who was in the Navy). He's deaf in one ear because he was on the deck when a plane (excuse my civilian talk and lack of knowledge) flew by and broke the sound barrier almost in front them.

SO DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU!

Really? Usually folks on the flight deck wear cranial helmets which would prevent such a thing.

Ryan, This sounds great. Good luck with the promotions. Have fun on the ship. and most of all don't get into any fights with the marines.
