It's actually Dr. George Papanicolaou. He was born in Kymi, Greece, in 1898. He developed the smear in the time frame from 1939-1943, at first calling it the Vaginal Smear.

THANK GOD YOU VERIFIED THE NAME! anonymous March 30 2006, 17:30:03 UTC
This is Jon, and after I first read your previous entry, I immediately checked and discovered what the guy's name was. I respected your wishes, however, and did not correct you. This caused me a great deal of stress. Each time I saw you, I wanted desperately to grab you by the shoulders and shout, "it's Papanicolaou!" It was easy enough to refrain from doing this, however, because I don't know how to pronounce the guy's name. Anyway, thank you for doing your research on the vaginal smear.

One child won't be enough. Let's have more.
And I've decided the name: Genesis Mackenzie Lynch.
I love you.
